Type R ported enclosures

Thinking of getting a type R 12 (05' model) 500rms and 1500 max. Just looking to see what anyone here has used with enclosure space and tuning and what they thought of whatever box they had it in.

I made a ported box it was 18" tall x 18"Wide x 14" deep. my port was 1.75"x 16.5" with a port lenght of 22.75". it's pretty loud I think.

i really don't feel like doing a crapload of math tonight...cubic ft and tuning freq. would be sufficient, lol

length times width times height = x, x divide by 1728= cubic feet, so 18x 18x 14=4536 take 4536 divide it by 1728=2.6 cubic feet That seems about right for 1 type r, if those are external dimensions. I have 2 type r subs in a 5 cubic foot box slot ported with a rockford fosgate power 1000.1bd and it @!#$in pounds like around 152db

thats external dimensions. infact on wednesday jan 11 I should have my 800 watt amp to run the type r. So then I can really give you some more advise. all I know is that it was almost as loud as the 3 12" r's I had b4 that were pushed with a 900 watt amp. I was only running the new 1at 400 watts.

I'm thinking 1.8 cubes or so tuned to 30-32hz.

yea, your askin a little much for them. you can get new ones on egay for 130 shipped. 100 on a used one is a little high.

I'm getting mine for 60 brand new, only reason i'm even thinking of running one.

Considering shops around here charge 350 out the door for type R's (Canada), I am satisfied with the price I got of Cav01 120 US including shipping. !!!

If it's going to be a daily driver, I say do 2 cubes tuned to 35 hertz. It'll hurt

how do you tune it to 35 hertz

Re: Type R ported enclosures

Tuning has to do with box size and port size. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31

That'll get you into trouble.
