Can I use an amp and subs with factory cd player?
Sunday, January 08, 2006 11:57 PM
I have an 04 sunfire with a cd/mp3 player. I was thinking of buying some replacement 6x9's for the rear deck. After thinking it over I would rather have 2- 10" subs with an amp. Can I do this with the factory cd player? I have considered getting an aftermarket cd unit, but it would save me money if I could keep using the factory unit.
Thanks for any help.

you will be MUCH happier with the functions and sound with a new head unit, but if you must keep it, you can run an amp, just need a high level converter. it splices into your rear speakers and has the RCA cables go directly into it because the stock unit doesnt have pre outs, BUT if u end up getting a Kicker amp, they have a high level input already, and you just need to wire it in, no converter needed.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I have right in front of me a high to low converter wired into a 2000+ harness that i dont need.

A lot of good quality amps have the convertor built in to them. Usually it'll tell you in the specs of the amp when you're looking at them.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't quite decided to get rid of the factory head unit yet. It did start skipping yesterday when I hit a small bump. I have decided to go with subs over 6x9's. I want alot of bass and I think the subs are the way to go.

if bass is what you want, subs are what you need. i would recomend upgrading the front stage if you care at all about hearing more than JUST bass in your music. that gets old realy fast, believe me

gotta agree with him....just bass is fun for about 2 days. then you start missing your mids and lows. get a nice set of components to go along with the subs. you won't be disappointed.

GO PATS!!!
