DVC Question
Saturday, January 07, 2006 5:45 PM
I thought i saw this some where before, but I was wondering if u have a DVC at 2 ohms each and you wire 2 amps to each voice coil, would that mess up the woofer? I know a lil about car audio but this is just something that I was curious about. I was wondering because I have a Kicker 12L7 with DVC at 2 ohm each w/1000 watts max/750rms and was thinking about just buying 2 amps that push atleast 400 x 1 at 2 ohms and wiring 1 amp to 1 coil and 1 amp to the other. Is this a possible application? If not then I guess I just need to buy an amp that is atleast 600 - 800 x 1 at 4 ohms or 1 ohms because a DVC 2 ohm wired parallel is 1 ohm and wired series is 4 ohm. Any suggestions would be great.

You can but if you don't match the output with a DMM you'll kill the sub pretty quick.

Yeah...I'd get 1 solid amp if I were you.

If you match the outputs of both amps with a DMM like Scout said you'll be just fine. However, I'm with Lash on this one - it's much simpler (and probably cheaper) to just use a single 1-ohm stable sub amp.

The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Where can I find a good 1 ohm stable amp? Cost doesnt bother me really. Under 300 bucks would be great though! Thanks for the input too! Whats DMM stand for?

Don't bump, it's retarded. Use the sub outs, they probably have some sort of crossover or soemthing on them.

you really need something a little more accurate then just a 7 dollar dmm to match the gains like that. I agree with just running one amp.

My buddy has one 15"L7 Kicker and is running A Kicker 1200.1 on each coil, as long as you match the amp gains on each coil your rocking, if not kaboom that will be the quickest money you have ever spent
