fuse questions...
Monday, December 19, 2005 5:38 PM
i have a 4ga fused power wire running from my battery to the trunk, i wanna use a distrobution block to power my two amps and maybe some neons or something, do i need to fuse each individual wire coming off of the block or am i ok with the one fuse near the battery on the 4 ga wire? and if i need to fuse the smaller wires, can i just use a fused distrobution block?

thanks

when going from a larger wire to a smaller wire..you MUST fuse each of the smaller wires

You need to run the fuse at the battery on your 4awg. then at your fused distrobution block, you need to run the proper size fuses for whatever wires you are downsizing to.

4 awg 125 amps
6 awg 80 amps
8 awg 50 amps
10 awg 30 amps
12 awg 20 amps
14 awg 15 amps
16 awg 7.5 amps

no it's not too small. you can go UP TO 125 amp on that wire. just don't go over that.

ah so those are the maximum values, any larger than them and the fuse is no good because it lets enough through to burn it up anyways right?

correct.

the fuse is there to keep the wire from catching fire. if enough current passes through that it melts the wire(such as a direct short to ground), then the fuse isn't doing it's job.
