Alpine Type X's and Rockford T1 Amp
Thursday, December 22, 2005 10:48 AM
i just picked up a pair of Alpine Type X's and a Rockford T1 Amp

here is my question......

the type X have a 500watt per coil at 4 ohms. the amp puts out 500 watts at 4 ohm or 1000 at 1 ohm. with two DVC subs i can wire it to where the amp puts off a 4 ohm and the subs see a 4 ohm load. will this be enough power to push the subs if i run the amp at 4 ohs, or should i run the amp at 1 ohm??

here are my two different wiring diagrams.

should i use option number 1 or 2

will there be enough power to run it at 4 ohms through all 4 coils.

Sigga what?

Seeing that your amp is 1-ohm stable, wire your type-xs to make a 1 ohm load. There's no point in wiring the subs to do 4 ohms if they can easily handle the power and your amp is made to withstand 1 ohm. You might as well get as much out of your system as you can.

The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

That amp is not going to push those very well.

one of these:

and wire them in a series AND parallel set-up like sown here (2nd pic down on left) You'll pull a 2 ohm load that way.sice the amp is not 1 ohm stable....but it's still a MONSTER.:

would this amp be enough power to power one of the subs, i doubt i will be able to get a different one for the time being (i plan on contacting them and asking about a trade for the T2) , but i i might just buy another one later.

I wouldn't run anything shy of 2.5k watts rms to those. The type r sounds good with 1k watts each.

You can't get a 2ohm load from 2 dual 4ohm subs.

I'd go with this amp: https://host366.ipowerweb.com/~jlcaudio/AUDO_STORE/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/29_37_38/products_id/665?osCsid=db976b69bde4bcdae5e3b4f3386d5738

The one IASCA judge from the NE area has had some records with this amp.

Did you click the link and look at the picture???? It's a series and parallel configration.. You use both in the same set-up.

oops...I thought the subs were dual 2 ohm coils.

yeah, i was wondering, how i would wire it at 2 ohms, glad you cleared that up, i just couldnt figure it out.

i think what im going to do is run the amp at 1 ohm (1000 watts) and see how i like it, if its not as loud as i would like, ill change it later, at least i have the subs already, im still considering buying that link to the first amp, the directed audio one, do you think it is comprible in quality to say alpine/rockford/kicker?

I'd get 2 Alpine MRD-M1005's but that might be because I like Alpine stuff. And if you get those 2 amps, you can control all their functions from the alpine headunit or a stand alone thing from like crutchfield.

a little of both, hence the 10's, giong with a totally sealed box as well. im willing to take a loss of loudness for improvement of quality.

Personally I think the type R's sound better than the X's, So if you want sq over spl then you should have gone with the type r to start with. Like I said they do sound as good anyway and on top of that you are underpowering them.
