What are some of the headunit's out right now with a higher wattage range I know alpine stopped their 27x4 rms 60x4 peak whats some other new headunits with the higher wattage I want a cleaner sound then my sony

I have a sony right now thats 23.2x4 RMS and I just dont care for it. it distorts ne thing over 3/4 volume. I mean I could get a 4 channel and go that route but I want drop the amp and get a decent head unit. should I just see if I can find a nice used alpine. my buddy has a cda-9835 in his chevy dually and a cda-7874 in his beretta and both are very clean and loud.

I just added a 4-channel amp. I''m getting 75x4 rms with my amp and the sound is very clear. For me it was cheaper just to add an amp. I wouldn't change your head unit unless you don't like it.

it's a sony xplod cdx-F7710 it's not that bad but not all that either.

get an amp, don't waste the money on a deck that over rates it's power. Check this out, alpine 9855 stats on the internal amp

First of all they reference their signal to noise ratio at 1 watt.... garbage. Their 18watts of power is rated at 14.4 volts... not gonna happen. And that is at 1%thd which is definitely audible distortion. And alpine isn't the only ones who do this and I am not trying to bag on them, they still make a superior product if you dont use the internal amp, but you are only lookin at about 10 clean watts rms per channel comin out of it.
Then lets say you take even a cheap sony amp that's rated at around 50x4. Sony XM-4060GTX. While it is still rated at 14.4 volts (better companies wont be like mtx, alpine, etc) it puts out 60 watts rms x 4 fully driven from 20hz-20kz with a maximum of .08%thd. That means that alpine unit is putting out over 12 times the amount of distortion and less than 1/3 the power. You can get these amps for like 120 on ebay. Probably cheaper if you can find a refurb or something.
You will never get quality sound out of a head unit with any amount of power coming out of it. It is just too small of an area to fit a good amp, and all the other electronics that are needed. Thats it though, i'm done ranting, just thought i would give an example of how nasty they sound. If you can get a deal on just about any amp, it would be better for the speakers than the deck, so look around (just dont get it from walmart).
I have infinity reference 6.5" 2 ways in my doors. I'm gonna be doing infinity refence 3 way 6x9's. I was thinkin either a 40x4RMS or a 50x4 rms amp. I had a lightning audio amp that was 50x2 rms on the doors. I have heard some people say that you shouldnt even bother with the rear. Also could I run tweeters off the head unit just to give me that extra crisp high sound.

I used my factory deck with for pionerr 4x6's and rockford punch 6X9's for a while.... when I added the ALpine touch screen it was liek a night and day difference, it sounded like an entirely new stereo, then I got Type R 6.5 comps in the front amped by alpine and again it was holy @!#$... what a difference....
if your looking for no the ordinary amp them, well worth it
