ok, i am havinig trouble making a decision and thought i should ask you all to get some outside advice and be able to find another point of view.
I am thinking about getting a new hu (apline cda 9851). the RCA's on my current pioneer HU dont work, so therefore, i cant hook up my amp/sub. now the reason i dont know if i should get a new hu is because i dont know exactly how long i'll have my car. i'll be done with college at the end of this summer and then start working. it currently has 89k miles on it and i'll be driving 90 miles a day, 5 days a week, for 16 weeks for my student teaching in the spring. so im sure that'll take some sort of tole on my car.
so my first question for you is: do you think i should get the new Hu and crank it up for as long as i can or put up with my current one and sell my amp and two subs and just forget about it.
my second question is: if i get a new hu, should i get it off ebay (220shipped) and install it myself or from a story for around 250+taxes (free installation)
the ebay auction ends in about 12 hrs....
thanks everyone!!
If you get a new HU you can always take it out of the car when you sell it and throw your old Pioneer (or stock) deck back in. I keep my stock cd player in storage for that exact reason.
If you can afford the new HU I say go for it - just transfer it into your new ride when you get it.

thats what im leaning toward...
should i get it off ebay or at an actual store?

When it comes to car electronics, warrantee is a BIG issue for me. Anything and everything can happen to something electronic in a car.
If it's just a matter of $20-30 bucks difference, I'd go with a shop or reputable online retailer that offers warrantee. It's piece-of-mind that you're not going to be S.O.L. if the thing is DOA.

Yeah I would definitely get it from a store. Usually for like 10-20 bucks more you can get the service plan too to make sure your deck works. Since you're getting a nicer deck I might spring for it, mainly for the peace of mind like savage said. Also I like being able to walk out of the store with the radio, not sitting around for a week waiting for it to get shipped, but I'm impatient.

you bring up good points... hence why i cant make up my mind.
anyone else??
I wouldnt go with ebay. I've been ripped off by people on ebay and so have a lot of my friends. I am against ebay 115%. keep this in mind while shopping for car audio "You get what you pay for!" You get one off ebay it could've been used or like "unholysavage" said it more than likely wont have a warranty from ebay. That's my opinion anyway! If you do want to buy from the internet check out crutchfield.com you pay a little more but you get great customer support, warranties, and all that @!#$!

Yea go to a store for sure. If you do end up buying. But you could always just get a signal converter or whatever for you amp to run off the rear speakers instead of using the headunits rcas. if you stay with the one you own now

alright, well i think you guys have talked me into going to bestbuy and purchasing the hu through them.
now i have another question!! i found this amp on ebay. buyer looks good 99%+ feedback w/24+k transactions.
linky
my question for you all is do you think this would be a good amp to use?? i want to hook it up to my speakers (i have aftermarket pioneers in the doors and rears). i think the rears are 4ohms, so i would be getting an extram 70watts to the rear correct??
is power acoustic amps any good? any personal experience with them? any information on the selling, auction, price, amp.... whatever, or even suggestions for amps are welcome, but budget is slightly tight around 100 bucks. just looking for a little more "umph" for my speakers...
THANKS EVERYONE!!
(jason, can i just have your sound system?? hahahahaha)
