my guess is blown speakers. if they sound like tin foil being scratched back and fourth...

Yeah, that happened to me a while back, take out the blown speakers as soon as you can or the rest will blow too.
Perfect description above, sounds like tin-foil being crunched. In my case, I had blown the tweeters on my pioneer 6.5" 3-ways,weren't covered by warantee.

Looking at your profile I'm guessing that you don't have the stock deck in your car.
If you're powering your front speakers with an external amp it could be loose RCA connections at either the headunit or amp (something could have even became loose within the amp).
IF you are amplifying your front speakers you can do a quick test to determine if it's the RCAs or speakers. Switch the left and right RCAs and then listen to your stereo. If it makes the same horrible noises, but with the left speakers instead, then it is a problem with the RCA connection at your HU (or the HU itself). If your right speakers keep making the same noise after switching RCAs, try switching speaker wires around (swap left for right) to see if the right speakers still make the same noises. If they do, it's probably a problem with the speakers themselves (or the speaker wires). If your left speakers make that crackling noise after switching speaker wires then you've at least eliminated the speakers as being the cause of the problem.
Anyway, try using the process of elimination figure out what's wrong. I'm guessing that it's a speaker issue, but you could get away with just having to fix a bad connection or replace $10 RCAs/speaker wire.
The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.
F-ing speaker is blown.... thanks guys lol
