I'm very happy with XM. If you're deck is XM ready, just get an adaptor for it, that way you can control XM through your deck and it's a lot cheaper than buying a separate receiver.

I have XM, and i love it.
XM for an XM ready deck is about $100... $50 for the tuner, $50 for the adapter. Right now, The roady 2 is about $30
not counting the subscription of coarse
Actually right now the tuner is on sale at Circuit city for like $10 I believe and the Sony adaptor is on sale too I believe, but I can't remember how much.

you need the radio and the adaptor
It actually depends... who makes the deck?
Sony is XM ready, It requires the Sony Smart adapter ($50) and the Tuner ($50), but u may be able to find it cheaper.
you still need the xm tuner and the pioneer adaptor.
You can pick it up cheaper at Wal Mart, or any other car audio store. A little under $100 is perfect.
Downside of the XM Ready Headunits: 8 Character limited display.
i got the delphi roady 2 for 50bux at best buy, but i saw it for 30 at circuit city like someone else mentioned above.
i have a pioneer 6700 which is xm ready but i just got the roady 2 instead of running it all off the head unit, it was cheaper that way,
you dont need an adaptor to hook up to your radio, you just set the xm unit to whatever station u want, i used 88.9 and u just tune your radio into that station and just control the xm. there are no connections between the roady2 and the cd player this way, you dont even need a xm ready radio to have xm .
you can buy an adaptor but u do not need to, that is what the xm ready radio is for..you can run a xm unit installed in your dash and just control though the xm ready radio if u want but it is a more expensive setup that way...
and it is 12.xx a month for 1 unit but if u have 2 or more units on one plan they cost around $6.xx a month on family plan..fyi
Personally I would do a direct connection to an XM ready deck long before I used a separate recevier for a few reasons. I don't like having more things on the dash, and it's a lot easier just controlling everything on the deck. You also don't get near the sound quality of a direct connection using the wireless fm modulator. Also, if you're using the fm modulator and you travel somewhere, you may have to go through and find another blank channel if the one you're using is used, and in some big cities, that might be close to impossible. Like Corsica Dude said, the display is going to be more limited, but I would say it's worth it.

wireless fm modulator in a cavalier = poop. My old sony deck needed a $100 adapter to hook the XM direct connect, so I sold it and went back to the stock cassette radio with cassette adapter from the XM. Sounds 100x better than the fm transmitter ever did.
