i am in the process of installing a cd player in my 02 cavalier.
i bought a wiring harness from walmart..............
instead of the 100 dollar door chime one.
i connected everything up
the CD player loads CD's but nothing displays on the screen and it wont play..................whats going on? is there any unusual wiring i have to do?

soemthing is wired wrong.

Did you match the colors? or did you actually read each descriptions and wire accordingly?

If the deck is getting power (which it must be if it is accepting the cds) then it is an internal problem inside the deck that is causing it to have no display.

Did you buy the deck new or used...or refurbished?

is it detachable face? might be an issue with the contacts.

did you buy a walmart brand player along with the harness? i would say it's something with the player itself. if it takes cd's, that's all the more power you should need for a display.... like wysiwyg said, check the faceplate itself if it's detachable...

I had that problem too. I think this will help you out: (I got this from a different post written by Besse)

The only other thing you will need to do is run a wire from the red ignition wire on the radio harness to and ignition circuit on the car. Most people go to the fuse box and tap to a fuse such as the windshield wipers, I went right to the accessory wire in the ignition harness. Like I said for more info on all that read the sticky, it had a lot of info in it.

I agree with andrew, it sounds like you got the constant power, which is part of the harness, but not the switched power that you need to run a separate wire for.
