REMOTE START ON A MANUAL

Does anyone know how to wire a remote starter on a manual car? Id really like one on mine and yes im aware that its illegal and aware of the chance of leaving it in gear. Thanks

Also anyone have the an Escort radar detector? Lookin for reviews.

Its the same as on an auto you just have to short out the clutch switch when you remote start. You need to use a relay for that otherwise your cruise will not work properly.

Why would it be illegal? They make kits specifically for a manual that have safety features to ensure you don't engage it with the car in gear.

An idea that I have been tossing around would be to design a sensor similar to these (without the alarm of course) that would either be attached to the shifter lever or a cable that can be calibrated for neutral, inline with the trigger for the relay. When the car is in neutral, the magnet closes the circuit and the remote start can be used. When the car is in gear, the circuit is open.... you get the point.

Problem is, I don't have the schematic knowledge to design such a sensor. I am unsure which parts to get, save the magnet of course. It would be a good safety feature....

I have short out the clutch when installing my remote start but did not think of the cruise control. I usualy don't use it but its always good to have it.

JH : Can you please send me the wiring for the relay on the clutch switch?

Do I need a special output on the remote start system to activate the relay?

Thanks!

There's devices out there already that would work. Proximity switches are one type that I can think of and they don't even require a magnet. They just sense metal if it is within the sensing distance which you can select when ordering. I'd probably go with the 8mm sensor with a 4mm sensing distance (5-30vdc). You'd have to tie the outputs into a relay to enable or disable the starter.

Here's a link to the sensor

i know someone who had remote start on his supercharged M3, when he sold the car, he told the guy, never leave it in gear, guy was at a coffee shop less than 2 weeks later, remote started car, car drove into coffee shop.

Sigga what?

Obviously had the wrong remote start put in. Kinda stupid, paying that much money on a car and then cheaping out on the accessories.

As I said above, there's kits made for manual cars. They have to be "armed" in order to work. You arm it by leaving the car running when you get out. When you take out the key, the car keeps running. When you get out and hit the button to arm the system, it will turn off the car and lock the doors. If you open the doors before starting the car, the system is disabled.

You'd have to be an idiot to accidentally remote start the car with it in gear if you have a proper setup.

Even if you remote start it in gear, your e-brake should be on, and it will stop the car from starting.

Every remote start I've installed has a wire that gets hooked to the parking brake to give it a ground to allow the remote start to work.

Yes but the car will move even if the parking brake is on.

Move? Yes
Roll away? No

Enough to cause damage....

Oh yes it will cause damage. My car started itself (in third gear) and did some serious damage.

Well... technically... it didn't "start".. but the starter motor cranked it through the door... heh...even with the parking brake on.
