Ok to start it off monday drivin down the road chillin radio half way up I hear a pop and it smells like a sub. Well come to find out my sub I had for 3 days. SWR-1242D blew and siezed. well replaced the sub and there is no sound from the amp it gets power and all but no out put. is it possible that the sub blew the amp as well. and in that case can I take it somewhere and have it repaired or would it be cheaper to replace it. Sony XM-D1000P5 amp. Please help me no subs sucks. BTW Rca's and pre out is fine used another amp to check it.

I had a similar problem with my MTX amp. I blew my MOMO 15 and it shorted my amp. Assuming you're trying to check the amp with a different sub, and it's getting a good signal, it's a possibility the amp's output went bad. The problem likely started with the sub. When you blow the coil on the sub, the amp will detect a dead circuit, and protect itself by shutting down (in my case it blew the fuse on the main power supply). If for some reason the amp doesn't shut down, it could have damaged the outputs.

if it's the amp...it's an easy fix for someone that knows what they are doing..couple bucks in parts is all it would take.

call around to your local shops and see if anyone has someone that can fix it..

Before you buy a new amp or try to fix it I would recommend you take it to a local shop and have them bench test the one you have. It isnt free usually but if the amp is new and you bought it from a reputable dealer they might be able to work something out.

2 year old SONY amp, replacing it will do nothing but benefit you. the fact that a sony amp has lasted 2 years and kept you happy is far beyond my expectations from them.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.
