Car Alarm Freaking Out...
Tuesday, November 29, 2005 2:00 PM
ok all, here's my situation...

last night, my car alarm worked fine. i go out this morning to leave for work, hit the disarm button...nothing. it unlocked the doors, but no beep sounded. i lock the doors, still no alarm sound. i hold the panic button...nothing. the lights don't flash and there's no siren. i lock the doors and use the key to unlock the car. no siren when i open the door. i shut the car door and the LED is on. its not flashing, its just on. it drives fine and stuff...just no alarm.

i checked the fuse under the dash and its fine. no idea what else to look at.

here's the unfortunate part. when we moved, my wife threw out the owners manual. i have no make or model. its just a basic alarm. its got the siren for when the doors are opened and the alarm is armed, its supposed to beep at arm/disarm, the lights are supposed to flash while siren is going off and during alarm/disarm, and its got a shock sensor.

any help is much appreciated. i'd rather not have to take it back to the shop where it was installed because its a 2 hour drive.

oh and by the way, i had the alarm put on in october of 2004 so this is a brand new problem. like i said, the alarm armed itself last night when i parked it...

Beats me...

If it's a no-name basic alarm- it probably just crapped out...

Unless you want to go through and check every wire to make sure its still hooked up okay- then I'd chalk it up to a bad alarm..

Or- maybe the alarm went into valet mode.. Usually if the LED is constant, it means the car is in valet mode. I don't know if the lights & siren would stop working though, although its possible..

Easy way to find out what kind of alarm it is,is to just look on the remote LOL even if it doesn't say on it open it and take the battery out and it should say something there.

also how can you buy an alarm and not know who makes it

i just told the shop what i wanted the alarm to have and told them to put it in. i was newly married and living on my own. i couldn't afford a 900 dollar alarm...i just got one that would let me know if someone was getting in my car.

and i'd know the maker if my wife hadn't thrown all the stuff on it away...

no make/model anywhere on/in the remote.

well, i have no idea what the problem was, but its fixed.

instead of just looking at the fuses in from the box i decided to pull them out. they were both fine so i put them back in. when i did, the alarm chimed. i'm guess that i caused the alarm to reset itself. everything works like it should though now.

thanks for the opinions...
