i have recently instaled central locking in my car and i used a wire that connects directly to the battery with a 15A fuse as the positive conection for the central locking system. i am now adding a head deck to the car and i am wondering if i can use this same wire, so i dont have to run another wire through the firewall. will running the central locking and the head unit off the same fuse draw to much current from the battery and blow the 15A fuse, (the head unit only needs a 10A fuse i think)
any help and advise on joining to this fuse would be great
thanks!
Im unaware as to what central locking is, Please enlighten me.
central locking is a lock kit for any vehicles that dont come with power locks from the factory. I would HIGHLY discourage using that fuse for both things. And you should not have had to run to the actual battery for either the central locks or the radio, just look under the drivers dash for a thick red wire and test it. It should give you 12v at all times. It is pretty easy to find. There are a few of them as well. Please do not use the same fuse for both of those things.
What size is the wire for the locks? If it is large enough to handle the current from both the locks and the head unit, you could use a larger fuse at the battery, tap into the same wire for the head unit and install separate fuses for each component after the tap.
Also, since locks are a momentary power requirement (probably less than a quarter second). You could get a slow blow fuse with the same amp rating. This would prevent the fuse from blowing unless the current rating was exceeded for a short time. Regular fuses are designed to blow instantaneously if the current is exceeded.
