i dont think it would take up that much juice...i have my volt gauge hooked up to my cigarette lighter (meaning that its still on/reading when i turn the car off) and it doesnt drain my battery.

The voltage to your cig lighter is not accurate. Its not far off, but its never quite accurate.
Get your Alternator tested, and your battery.
I bet that the alt isnt charging the battery properly, so when you turn it offm it doesnt have enough juice to start.
lol but wait. i need the gas gauge to go down still...anyone know?

Have you been messing with your ignition system at all? Are there any lights remaining on in the cluster?
Is the gas gauge even supposed to go down to 0 on the 95-99 cluster when the power is turned off? I thought they just stayed in place, which was why you have to mark their position when putting on a gauge face or something.

mine goes past E(0) when i turn mine off (its a 98)
Sounds like you may have a bad cell in your battery.

thats funny you say something about the ignition system because i just got a remote start/alarm put it. and yeah it used to go down.
right now the shop is taking it off, so that we can take it somewhere to get looked at, then they are putting it on again (no one will check out the problem if there is aftermarket bs on there) thanks for the help guys.

do u have aftermarket gauges?
Well the reason I asked about the ignition system is that if for some reason it's not going to fully off, and still thinks it's in the run position, that may account for the gauge staying active.
Does it appear to be working properly otherwise?
^^ yeah basicly i think everything else is normal. any ideas? my grandpa said he thinks they disrupted something in the communication wire or something crazy...probably right though

I know the cause of your gas guage going up to full and then throwing a cel, regardless of how much gas is in the car. But you situation, i dont know.
when i installed my gauges some times my gauge stayed normal sometimes it didnt.. it always worked good and everything it never does it anymore tho
