Wiring Harnesss

I drive a 2002 cavalier, and im going to install an aftermarket cd player. i called best buy to get some prices and he told me the new wiring harness will be 117 dollars because there is a module that connects to the cd player, that displays engine statistics and stuff like that through the cd player, i thought i could just buy the 18 dollar wiring harness at walmart or something and use that, do i need the 117 dollar wiring harness? has anyone ran into this problem?

i have a 2002 cav with the rds radio. thats what you should have. go to best buy and tell them you need a wiring harness for a 2000 trailblazer (i think its like 15 bucks).

when you go to install your afermakret head unit DO NOT CUT ANY WIRES. the trailblazer was a direct hookup for me to my factory wires. then you just connect the proper wires from the trailblazer harness to the new HU. i think you'll have like 2 or 3 wires that the aftermarket HU won't use...just tape off the ends.

Just to clarify, a trailblazer harness is the same as a tracker harness is the same cavalier harness. All GM cars use the same plugs from 88 to present. The problem is the 2000+ cavaliers have no switched power wire. Sparks I have no idea how you're work without you using either an expensive module, which also keeps door chimes and Onstar if you have it, or running the switched power (red) wire from the deck to an accessory power wire somewhere in the car.

i ran my accessory wire to the fuse box...i can't remember what i tied it in to though...

i just got down there with a tester and found a fuse that was live when the iginition was on but dead when it was off. i think i used to wiper fuse or something like that.

i went to best buy, and clarified the problem, the extra 100 bucks for the harness was to keep your door chimes. screw the door chimes, im buying the cheap one. so i just cut wires and connect the new ones to the same colors? and run the red wire to a switched power source (fuse)
