Input on Sony head units
Wednesday, November 23, 2005 10:40 PM
I was wondering if i could get some input on this Sony head unit. I've never owned a Sony head unit before, only pioneer. The thing about it that caught my eye was the three preamp outputs. The reviews on it seem to be good but i don't trust those guys as much as i trust the people on the jbo.

Never been too impressed with Sony products. If you're used to Pioneer, I would say you won't be happy if you switch to Sony. For that kind of money you can get a pretty decent Pioneer deck. If you have three amps you need to get signal to, most amps have RCA passthrough outputs now, so you shouldn't have a problem getting signal to them.

sony= puke. find a nice pioneer premier deck if u like em and are used to them already theyre not bad, my first choice in head units will always be Alpine tho, theyre top notch and all around the best bang for the buck.

I have this deck here: http://www.cardomain.com/item/SONCDXF7710
and I love it. The 3 pre-outs are very useful. I've never had a problem with Sony head units and this is my 2nd one now (1rst one got ripped off).

I use sony headunits almost exclusively in my A/V installs. When used with an XA-300 it makes adding components easy and user friendly. I've never used the unit you're asking about, I normaly stick to the ABM (Active Black Matrix) ones. If done correctly you will get good sound and should last a long time. I recomend the CDX-M8805X

CRAP, stay away.

It's funny that most the people that are saying they suck have never owned one or heard one set up correctly. Sony gets a crap rep because their low end wal-mart Xplode systems suck. Most people are just vimiting up other peoples opinions who were just vomiting up other peoples opinions. As with almost any head unit, I recomend not using the internal amp and just the RCA pre-outs with a good quality amp

I sell and install car audio and i do not go on anyones opinion other than mine, and most of what i say isnt opinion, its personal experience, i will never recomend sony over Alpine,...EVER, and here goes that opinion stuff your talking about... IMO Alpine, Pioneer Premier, and some Clarions, all brands i have had awesome experience with as far as HUs go.

I just sold my Sony that I've had for 6 years or so. Never had a problem one with it.aside from the fact it didn't have aux inputs (without buying the adapter for $100). Buddy of mines' son just turned 16 and it went in his truck.

It was a good unit, with all the features I needed, and then some. I'd probably never buy Sony over Alpine, but I can't say anything bad about Sony either. I actually have Sony Specialty Series amps for my new ride.

and im not saying everything sony will blow up and kill everyone lol. im just saying its not the best, specialy not the best value for the money. i think i have said this before in quite a few of my audio/electonics posts. Bad will sound good untill you hear better.... and believe me, there is much better out there than sony

Since this is not the best choice, What pioneer would you recomend with three pre amp outputs? Give me a link if possible.

Depending on your price range, this one is damn nice for the price, 3 pre outs, 4 volts, and i think its decent looking too.... i still say go alpine

I have Had the same sony HU for the past 4 years its getting older but it works well and is very reliable. I find most people that are really brand prejidous have gone throught a deck a year so I have had mine for 4 if thats any help. And with the Xa-300 it makes hooking accesroies up really easy.

What alpine would you suggest then. I would like to stay under 250.

Sony is a bunch of CRAP! My last system in my car consisted of a $200 Sony Xplod deck and Xplod amp and sub. The sub went out after about a year, the amp would get EXTREMELY hot and actually melted my carpet (VERY inefficient), and the deck was more than a nightmare. It would dim terribly even when the bass was turned down, and if you turned the volume up more than half way, the deck would cut out. The sound wasn't good either. I vowed never to buy Sony again. Now I have a Pioneer Premier head unit, 2 JL w6v2 subs and a Hifonics amp. I have never been happier!

if your entire system consisted of $200... I don't really think your input is needed. The wiring and interconnects for my system costs well over $200.

The deck ALONE was $200. Not $200 for the entire setup. I spent at least $700 on the setup.

I use all Sony stuff in my sounds systems. I recommend Sony stuff if you're cheap (like me).

My sisters and friends have all gone with something other than Sony (Alpine, JVC, etc), listening to the advice of sales people at retail places. My systems blow theirs away, hands down.

I agree that Sony HUs need to be tuned to get just the right sound. I've got a laptop sound testing setup so I can fine tune the EQ just the way I like it. Tuning makes a world of difference.

Never had any problems either. I've had 2 HUs (both have lasted years problem free), 3 subs, 2 amps, and plenty of misc speakers, never had any problems with anything. Everythign has always just worked, what more can you ask?

my dad has a sony cd player in his jeep. it's been in there for about 5 years now, and still works great. i have no complaints with sony products, they're very good.

^also, i'm interested in what sound testing setup you have.

I have a Sony DVD Player in my car with dual headrest monitors and I could not complain for one sec. In my Corsica I had a sony HU installed in 2000, that is currently in my Fiance's Grand Prix, which has also been flawless. I have only owned/operated sony head units, and until I feel they cannot offer what I desire I will continue to be a faithful customer.

Haven't been too impressed with the sony. I've got an alpine in mine, love it. We got the sony in my gf 's (of course because the red had to match car interior) No comparison, the alpine's kick ass

SONY == CRAP

I had a sony for under a year and the last 3 months i had it all it did was skip like a 6 year old jumping rope! I took it back and got a pioneer 6700 and it blows the sony out of the water. The pioneer is so much better than the sony its not even funny. I do however think that the sony amps are fairly decent( at least for the price range ).

Whats up people?
