Hey can anyone explain what an AVR test is? Situation was I wasn't in town at the time and my girlfriends car refused to start , it wasn't getting any power so GM towed it to the dealership. They tried to tell her that her aftermarket battery terminal was cracked, quite possibly her battery case and it was going to be around $250 for a new battery and post and so forth (expensive for a @!#$ battery and 2 min work, but anyhow). I couldn't exactly tell her what to do , she has no automotive or electrical exp. So I just told her to make sure she got all the pieces back, so I could get a look at them, dealership sees gil most of the time they think$$$( no offence to the girls that do know cars). After she asked for them to give her every single piece they changed back, they said oh, the post was loose, so we put this washer thing in so it wouldn't happen again, and charged her $130. Then told her if it does just tighten it. After looking at it, yup, basterds charged her $130 for dam lockwasher, so I'm heading back in yelling. But on the work order it says:
AVR Test
Battery Test
Tighten loose terminal
Can u believe the incompitance it took the guys, an hour and a half, an AVR test and a battery test to figure out the post was loose, duh the lights wouldn't even turn on, idiots, or scammers.
So can anyone elighten me to what exactly an AVR test is so I know.
Thanks Guys
AVR tests solve problems that used to take up to an hour to diagnose in only five minutes or less. This unit (the AVR tester) provides the three primary functions for testing batteries, starters, alternators voltage regulators and their related circuitry. These functions, ammeter, voltmeter and load control are coupled with this unit's unique indicator, which analyze the quality of an alternators DC output
so instead of paying $130 for a wash and tightening, basically GM hooked up 2 wires looked at a number, saw a battery problem, then found the loose post , put on a washer and tightened it down... THEN charged you $130 most places do AVR tests for free cause it resaults in business for them... anyway b4 u go yell at them CALL another GM deal and ask them how much a ARV test cost ... just make it comparable and make sure there no ripping you off that way either... good luck
I got an AVR test done today for free at autozone =[
Thanks man appreciate the info
