Box Question
Monday, November 21, 2005 4:09 PM
Alright, so i have a box thats like 16 inchs tall and about 30 inchs wide...and it takes up like that whole slot on my trunk prettymuch when its pushed back up to the seat...and i was wondering does this lower the amount of soundwaves coming through because im thinkin maybe they're just bouncing off the box and not really comin through because i have a 12 inch sub and its runnin off 600watts rms....like should that be loud or just decent...also when the seat is up its WAY quieter than when the seat is down...and i mean way...does the seat usually effect the subs this much? ... would a lower box with more room for space for sound waves to travel through into the cab be better or wat do you guys think

As far as how loud it should be, that depends on what kind of amp and sub you have and the enclosure you have it in. Yes putting the seat up will absorb a lot more of the sound, if you like it better with the seat down, leave it down as much as you can, thats how I used to have it when I still had my backseat in.

wow, could you have been less vague on your setup?

i leave my backseat down about 90% of the time. one, the backseat muffles the sound. two, with the backseat up, my subs rattle the hell out of my rear deck. as for your setup...we need to know what you're running before we can tell you if its junk or if you just don't have it tuned right.

oh yeah...the box is 2.05 cu free approx...and there is like.. 8 guage wire from the amp to the battery :S....and like 12 guage goin from the amp to the speaker...if any of that matters...i have the amp set to like +5 dbs....thats the only adjustment on it other than the hpf which is 125....so yeah...if u need to know more just ask

I'm hoping the hpf was a typo because you want your LOW pass filter on, not the high pass when working with subs.

You should set the LOW PASS FILTER at around 80hz.

is that 1000 RMS@ 2ohms? or 1000 peak?

if it's 1000RMS i'd say chuck the 8ga and get some 4ga to that thing for a start...
