Doorpannels went in yesterday
Friday, November 18, 2005 8:40 AM
Well I posted on here quite some time ago about the pannels I started and thought maybe a couple guys would like to see them. They are no where near finished, but I wanted these in before winter so I can enjoy them and spend alot of time tweaking before next spring/summer when the weather warms up and I look into a new finish. So for everyone out there cringing when they see gloss paint on a doorpannel... don't worry it's more then likely not going to stay that way, I just happened to have a few cans of paint kicking around and thought why not

And a shot of the massager.

Not too bad. My suggestion would be to spray them graphite to match your interior better.

Mennitti: If I have my way next summer they will be upholstered in matching interior grey vinyl with some automotive painted fiberglass pannels to break it up a bit. Not sure what design to use for the fiberglass pieces though...

CAS: The massager... is pretty bloody loud. The doors sound really nice thus far but I need to do alot of tuning to get them setup the way I want. It's tough getting them to keep up while somewhat blending in with those subs

Streaker: Don't care to be honest. If someone came up a boot fcuked them ruining the finish I wouldn't be really bothered... it's a cheap temp thing. Give it a couple months and I'll post some new pictures on how they are holding up to the abuse, I think they might hold up not to bad to be honest.

Here's a question for you guys, what grit should I use for wetsanding? I'd like to give it a shot just for fun and to remove some of the small flaws, but never done it before.

your wrong, but thanks for playing!!

Start by wet sanding with 1000 grit (you can start with 800 if the orange peel is really bad)
Use a flexible rubber block on all flat or semi-flat panels. Hand sand all curves and corners. Being careful not to over sand on the edges. This step is mainly to “knock” down the orange peel and make the surface nice and smooth

Do the same with 1500 grit, and then again with 2000. This step is to make the 1000 grit scratches fine enough to be buffed.

You can go one step more and continue with 3000 grit, but it is not necessary endless you had let the paint cure for too long.

things you'll need for buffing...

3 deferent types of buffing pads.......
1 high cut whole buffing pad,
1 medium cut whole pad,
and a fine cut or polishing foam pad

Several types of compounds.

1 Medium cutting compound
2 fine cutting compound
3 swirl mark remover, or machine polishing compound
4 Hand polish or glaze
