Like that topic states.. What is your favorite brand of wiring
I get a 60% discount on Monster Cable.. so I was gonna use it because if im spending alot of money on car audio and paying attention to detail.. yet 12 ft. of power cable is 150 bucks and 20 ft. of speaker wire is like 50 and RCAs are close to 80 each... before discount of course.. seems a lil rich for my blood even with 60 percent off.. but if its worth it as it is for home a/v.. Ill bite the bullet but my discount makes the product not arrive for like a month at the least but im not in a huge hurry.. but If I can run something like stinger thats gonna be comperable and can be bought cheap online.. id do it..
So.. favoite brands for dollar.. or good stores with discounted wire ??

i just use cheap wire... Monster cable is seriously overpriced and unless you're running a pure SPL system... who cares.
Heck, I used the stock wires. Sounds the same to most people.
thats good to know.. I just want wanted to make sure I was getting full potential if im already running alot of good equipment.. and making sure install was right.. but that eases the mind seeing as how I already have some decent wire in there.. it may be silly to take it all out.. but I have 4 guage wire ran to the block and split from there out to 2 amps.. like 800w total, but now with 2 M1005 amps ( 1000wrms each ) and an F545 ( 500wrms ).. I may need bigger wire
.. am I ok with what ive got then ? or move up to 1/0 to the block.. and then 4 to each amp ?

Dude, check Ebay for your RCA's and power/speaker wire. I got a 100 foot roll of 10ga. speaker wire of Ebay shipped to me in Canada for just under $70 bucks CAD. That stuff sells for over $2.00 a foot around here. It may not be "Monster" or "Stinger" but like Lenko said, who really cares unless you are building a competition vehicle. I also got some 4 channel, shielded, twisted Stinger RCA's of Ebay for about $40 bucks and those run over $100 bucks in my area so I'd check Ebay if I were you. I can give you the link to the guys online store on Ebay that I bought the speaker wire from if you want, lemme know.

I am not doing comp. I just kinda wonder if ill need 1/0 for 2500wrms ir if 4 wil stil be alright.. maybe I can keep the wiring if I add a cap ? I hate caps but I hear that the only thng its good for is if your wire is too big?

what lanman said, talk to Jerry, hes definately the man, and as far as brand goes, its the same as most things, you pay for a name that is all, wire is wire, it all does the same thing most of the time there are very few differences between brands

I'm using 12ga Stinger "high performance cable". bag-boy on ebay. good deal, fast shipping.
Bought my speaker wire, and hyper series RCAs from him and had them in like 3 days.
I really like the Karma Kable speaker wire and the Kolasous power kable at www.knukonceptz.com. The Karma cable is twisted cable that completely eliminated the alt. noise from my speakers. I'm very happy with it.
I just bought some so called CHEAP power wire 50% less than the better brands. I saved about 75 to 80 bucks. ( thats what i was thinking when i left the store) Got home to install it and different story all together. The so called 0 awg wire kit i got for $80 was the same size as my higher priced 4 awg i was replacing. The coating on the wire was just thicker to make it look like 0 awg. So now i have to go and get real 0 awg wiring kit. Therefor losing $80 in the process.
Nother thing for you guys that do not think wiring is everything. Lets say you have a 1000 watt amp with say 8 awg power wire hooked to it. Y0u will lose 130 watts of power from your amp due to the voltage lost in your wire. For 4 awg 57 watts, 2 awg is 35 watts, and 1 awg is 28 watts this is all based on a 10-15 foot power wire going from batt to amp. So you can spend $500 on an amp and $50 on a wire and the little prick down the road has spent $350 for a smaller amp and 150 for the better wire and doing alot better than you.
Just something to think about.

Seriously, get your wire from knukonceptz. I couldn't be happier! and they have great prices.
The numbers you give are are the electrical loss, not the audio loss. so if you run 8 gauge cable to your 200 watt amp, it won't suddenly turn into a 70 watt amp, it is just that more current has to flow through the 8 gauge than a smaller gauge to supply the amp with enough juice to operate correctly.

Sorry, I should have clarified my previous message.
For SPEAKER wire... the cheap crap at the dollar store is the same as Monster Cable, assuming it's the same gauge wire.
Same deal for power wire... buying cheap 4 gauge wire is essentially the same as buying gold plated Monster Cable 4 gauge wire. The key is using "inexpensive" cheap wire... not overpriced you're-paying-for-the-name-on-the-packaging-which-you're-going-to-throw-away-anyways wire.
I use the stock speaker wires... after all, they go to the right places. I use "Powerflex" purty looking red 2 gauge wire for power, because it's cheap.

4awg is NOT big enough for 2500 watts.
and another thing..your wire can never be TOO big, lol. If anything, go overkill on your wire sizes.

Thats what I needed to know.. so if I do 1/0 to the trunk and just use a block and send three strands of 4 gauge to the power... and then use a 1/0 ground in the trunk and then use a distro and send 3 strands of ground out to the amps? does this sound right ?

another way of looking at it, if you have a 1000 watt amp and you lose 100 watts do to to small a power cable. that its going to equal out to about .25 db loss. wich unless your seriously competing in spl isnt going to mean anything. no one can here that little of diffrence anyway, most people have problems discerning a 2-3 decibel diffrence so in the end unless your seriously competing your not really losing anything, unless you feel spending an extra 80 dollars is worth a quarter of a db.
and key surfer i'd take your wire back everytime ive bought cheap wire when i just needed something temporary the wire has been the same size as my high dollar wire.
