first let me give some info....I have a 2003 cavalier 4 door LS sport... I had a Panasonic deck which best buy installed ( i did not had the wiring harness )...the system worked great after 3 months...something weird started to happend....the radio TURNED ITSELF OFF, and it DID NOT wanted to turn back on....like if you cut the power supply.. after a few min i came back on with no memory everything erased....didnt mind at the time, but it started to do it often and often till the point that the radio didnt want to turn on...only when it wanted....(even if i turn the car off and the on), i checked ell the wiring was fine....so I thought it was the radio then I changed for a Premier 6700, very nice....installed myself, same harness...and no problem at all....after 1 (ONE) month it started doing the same!!!WTF!!!!! this didnt happened when i had the stock radio....cuz after the panasonic, I installed the stock radio back and used for a month with not a single problem.....I really have no IDEA whats happening..... cant be the subs....theres nothing related to that....electronics are fine on the car......PLEASE ANY INPUT WILL HELP, just need some opinions, thanks everybody in advance...also whoevers gives me some help, or tries to help me out here.... I'll check their CARFAX for FREE!!! yep...I have till december for free checkup on VIN numbers....

Sounds like a power wire has gradually worked loose... that'd turn it off, and erase the memory as well.
ill say it now get your self a new h/u. i bought my Panasonic 9700u about a year ago 3 months went buy started doing the same thing your did made my own harness( its wired st8 to the battery and the 12v switch to a good source) same problem still sent it in a a defect under warranty 6 weeks went by and it started again. now im just saving to get a new one.
What harness is on it??? Is it just the one so you don't have to cut the cars wires or is it one that has the chime module thingy in it??? I would think that when best buy installed it, the connections they made weren't really good and so the power connection has come loose (like alkatmsu said). If it is a harness just that clips into stock so u don't have to cut wires then i would buy a new harness because the power wire from the to the HU might have come undone - they aren't that expensive - like 10$. If it has the chime module than I would just double check your connections. And then sodder the connections instead of using crimp connectors (assuming thats whats on there now). That'd be what i would do.

ok, let me explain...the harness best buy installed...its the one that you connect to the stock harness...so you dont have to cut anything from the stock one.....what I did to the new HU it's unplug the harness from stock one, and change wires to the new HU harness.....and plug it bak to the stock harness....as some of you know the 2003 models have to be connected to a 12v source so...what best buy did is to connect the radio RED wire to the igniton fuse on the driver side.....(which is what everybody does).....and I dont thinks its the HU....like I said before the previous HU did not do this until after 3 months of intallation...and this new HU its starting doin it after 1(ONE) month later of intall...cuz it's a brand new one, and its not a panasonic...its a premier (pioneer)...thanks for the helps guy....any more helpd would be very appreciated....if any of you would like to get a CARFAX report...post your VIN# and email....i will email it to ya...thanks again

I'm not comfortable posting my VIN on here, but I sent you a PM.
If its connected to a fuse, did they use a fuse tap??? If so I would check to make sure that the tap isn't losing its connection. I would also go and solder the connections to the 12v source to make sure it isn't losing its connection someway. The only other thing that i can think of would be that the power wire is coming loose from the back of the HU but thats some bad luck if its both of um. I just triple check your connections.

O-u got mail
I think you just answered your own questions, your saying they connected the red wire(ignitiom/acc wire) into the same fuse as the ign.Thats your answer i think it's only a 10amp fuse and then they put that wire in there.I surprised your not blowing fueses, also where did they connect your Yellow wire (batt/memory with a 10 amp fuse to.
honestly most people tap into the ign wire under the dash are the wiper.
well....yeah....thats how it's done...i think....the yellow one its connected to the plug that connects to the stock harness....so where should I connect the red wire then???

CaviFL45
loosing memeory would be a cause of the yellow wire disconnecting....
the red should be the switched, some heads, if you loose constant, it shuts off, others will still draw power from the red.... if that makes sense

wait for it... wait for it... NOW GO!! ---> '02 LS Sport <---

Like buzz said all your memory stuff is related to the constant yellow wire, not the red. If BB installed it, they should guarantee their work. Take it back to them and have them check it out. Could be as simple as a bad harness adaptor, I've seen it before.

maybe the fuse on the yellow wire is loose or bad?
You should be fine with the fuse tap in the ign fuse, because a tap makes a new circuit so you actually have two circuits, but are just using one terminal in the fuse box. It's kosher

I have to disagree with you on that, because it's never good to make the chance of over loading a circuit and a ign one to be that.
But you won't be over loading the ign circuit at all. You're making a completely new circuit. It is totally unrelated to the ign circuit, except that it shares a terminal from the battery. It is safe, there is no problem with this method.
that depends on what side of the fuse you tap into, personally i never tap the fuse box. I always create my own power source and then fuse that.
Right, and the point of a fuse tap is to make another circuit that is independent of the first circuit.
thanks for the replys....

well best buy gave me 3 months garantee on the work done....it's been more since then....also remember I changed the HU and used the same harness BB used for the new HU, remember I changed the HU cuz I thought it was going bad....the new HU started doing this a month after installed ( the old one did this after about 3-4 months installed ) anyways....today I went to the mall, park the car....when I came back and turn on the car....memory was all erased....see this happens ramdomly.....it's very weird....friends that know electronics have no clue what could it be.....any more ideas???.... thanks for your replys....CARFAX are free send me an email with VIN# to carl_fl@yahoo.com so I can send your report if you would like

have you checked your power and ground wires with a voltmeter? It is possible that somewhere there is a loose connection and when you go over a bump, you lose power. Just a thought. You may also want to try grounding the HU to a metal piece (there is a metal tube right behind where the radio is that is perfect. There is also a bolt that screws into the metal, try that.).
Good luck!

not actually....but i'll try tomorrow see, and tri-check the connections

and also ground the HU the another ground...lets see what happens.......the extrange part its that....it started to happen a month after installed not after days....and this never happened to the stock radio.... thnx

Buy a new harness adaptor. If the stock deck is fine, and you've used that same adaptor for both decks, something is not making a solid connection in that adaptor. I'd put my money on saying if you get a new adaptor, your problem will disappear.
