ok so a friend of mine needed some cash, and was selling a PS2.. i figured i might as well help him out depending on the cost....PS2 that had been turned on maybe 3 times, well taken care of, 2 unused games, memory card, controller... all for $40.,... this will definately be speeding up my getting TV visors and a power converter

well it was dirt cheap and i would rather not buy another DVD player or a 900$ head unit

I ran a ps2 to my alpine cva-1004, honestly one of the best things i did to the car. It really sets it apart down here, plus people are genuinely surprised to see a ps2 in your glovebox, so for the money i say do it.
all i need is a monitor and Power converter. i got a realy nice idea on how im gunna do it, but just like the rest of my car, not gunna give everything away or show pics till FINISHED...

That looks great man, but im going for a more Subtle and functional look. My car is a daily driver, year round, so im probly going to do visors, something that i can hide, get out of the way, and will never sacrifice any functionality. anyone know where to get a decent power converter for a good price? im only looking to run the PS2 off it so it doesnt need to be gigantic.

I used my 170 watt power inverter. 40 bucks at office max.
never had any issues with it at all? any special brands anyone prefers? i have no experience with running AC accessories from a DC source, so i dont know a damn about whats a good inverter and what isnt lol

I got an invertor from wal-mart and its worked fine, I wired it so it stays on even when the ignition is off. So that way I can pop the trunk or whatever and not have to start the game over. I like the sleep effect. I got a PS2 in the glovebox, a motorized clarion that no one can tell is a dvd player when its closed, and two 8 inch sunvisor monitors, its great for roadtrips, and for playing games out on main rather than wasting gas cruising around
what did u get for the monitors and how much did you pay? the sinvisor ones i mean, thats all i want, dont need a head unit with a flip out or anything, just need the visor monitors. the more i think of how i wanna do it and how its gunna look. and the more i talk to you guys about this, the more pumped i get about doing it, im probly gunna start fabbing up the stuff i need to mount it all this weekend. uhg, if i have time.. full time job, part time job selling car audio and sometimes installing it, and now with a new band... yeah someone wanna come help me get my car done? lol

Well I got the sunvisor ones off of ebay for 300 for the set of two. It took some work to get them to fit but afterwards they look good. I got pulled over once on a road trip while my passenger was watching a "Old School" on the sunvisor in front of him, and the head unit was open too. By the time the cop pulled me over they were both shut off and the head unit was shut so it took him a while to realize that the sunvisors had screens in them, and he made me disconnect them but never noticed the head unit. I think I'm gonna pull the visors out soon and rebuild them so they match my interior, and so they use stock mounts rather than the ones they came with. But they work fine as is.
cool, i was looking into the ones that come with the full visors like what you have, plus my pass side visor is missing anyway cuz some douche bag that stole my cds decided to take the whole visor they were attached to so i need new ones, why not upgrade?

Sorry, No can do. I got the pictures and everything, but now I can't find the cable to upload them. I might make a run back up to my house later tonight and I think I have some pics there. Until then I can tell you more about them. They came off ebay, $300. They have two video inputs so I can switch them independantly of the DVD player. They came with two seperate remotes although either remote works with both monitors. They work great. things to be aware of is that they are heavier than the original ones, so you need a secondary mount on the other side. I used the hole where the headliner is held up by one of those "plastic nails" or whatever. They use a 2 screw mount so I used one of the original screw holes and drilled another one across from it. The cavalier worked out pretty well because it had plenty of room for running the wire that came out through the mount itself. When i got them the mounting length between the two mounts was too long so I had to take them apart and void the warranty in order to adjust them to fit between the orginal mounts and the hole with that plastic nail. They were "Oslon" brand and came from japan or china or something.

For those of you that have been thinking about doing this, I highly sudgest it. I live in a little town and when I did this I was the first one to have have any type of screen in my car, more or less 3 screens with a PS2 and DVDplayer. Its a really fun thing to have and sets your car apart. It takes a little work but it is well worth it. And with the new game systems coming out the ps2s are nice and cheap. I'm lookin for an older, larger, PS2 because I'm working on replacing my glovebox door with a fiberglass piece thatll be flush with the ps2 front. So I don't have to open it to change discs or anything. The buttons and disc door will be visible. It should look really good when I'm done with it.
i would be willing to trade one of my larger PS2s for a small one, dunno how shipping would cost and all, shouldnt be much, but if ur interested in that, lemme know! i want more glove box space than PS2 space, and if u want the opposite, i would soo trade

If you move the visor to the side to block the sun from the driver's side window, is that bad for the screens? I mean to have sunshining on them like that.
I'll keep the trade in mind. I had a big one in before but it stopped reading discs. The main thing I don't like about the little ones is the ac/dc converter. I didnt really have much of a place to put it so I just set it beside the PS2 in the glovebox. I got a roommate that might be willing to give me his older PS2, but I might like to trade. What kind of condition is it in?
schembo2000: I don't know if it would hurt the screen too much, but I've never done it to mine. I usually don't have a problem with the sun shining in my eyes, If I do I usually just put on some sunglasses. But it is fun to turn them to the side to play video games while standing outside the car!
Mine has been taken care of its whole life, the one i just got off my friend, well, he taked better care of hist @!#$ than even i do, AND it has only even been turned on like 3 times. so yeah, theyre both in excelent working order as well as excelent cosmetic order

thanks bro, im at work right now, checking that site out, definately got a lot of stuff and decent prices! that site reminded me of my other route, im thinking about going with a big flip down and no visors, cuz i would LOVE to have map lights anyway, and its a bigger screen, i dont need 2 small screens rather than one 10.4 inch.
