I have 3 10in. mtx 8000's and a mtx 1501D modded to put out 1800 watts rms. The subs are in a custom made box to run them, and they are not very loud at ALL!!! I thought mtx would be better.
Hemm, yeah, if you say so???
1800 rms is probably running the speakers at .5 ohm or 1 ohm...
How many ohms are your subwoofers?
Aaaaand... If you were running anywhere near 1800 rms, your stereo would be loud as @!#$... Either theres a problem somewhere or you're going deaf.
They are dual 4ohm, but I think the place that installed everything said they would be running at like 1.7 or 2.7 ohms. The amp is 1800 rms, but the subs are 400rms so it would be 1200 rms total
I'm guessing that there is a problem with the install/box design. What kind of box is it? Sealed, ported, bandpass? If it's ported/BP, what frequency is it tuned to? What is the internal/net volume of the enclosure? Are the gains on your amp properly adjusted (be careful with this - you can easily kill those subs if you get retarded with your gains)? How is it installed in your car (facing forward toward the interior, backward, if forward is the front baffle sealed off from the rest of the trunk etc)?
Give us some more info and we'll be able to better help you. With subwoofers, the design of the enclosure is just as important (or likely more so) than the amount of power given to the speakers. I'd be willing to bet that either the "custom" box is the culprit, or you're getting massive cancellation issues, but we need more info before we can really help you out.

I'm being who I am, not what you want me to be...
ummm its slot ported. I dont know what the measurements are. It is facing the back. Yeah I dont know about the gains but I really dont want to blow them
turn the gain up to 3/4.. any higher and your pushing 75% more distortion..
Also.. if you could maybe pull out the subs and draw us up a diagram of how they did it in MS Paint or something usually if your running at the wrong ohm combination, you will not be very loud at all, and usually blow them/

how is the amp modded to go lower in ohm's or for higher volt's? if you mod a amp and run it at 2 ohms and 14 volts your not goin to get any more power out of it.
who made the box for you? ask them what the box is tuned to
also talk a muti meter and set it to ohms and place the + to the + and the - to the - on the amp and see what ohms they are runnin at. oh yea when you do that touch the + and the - on the M/M togeather it will read from 0-.3 then when you place it on the amp take off the # you got when you touched them.
if its .3 and when you hook it up to the amp and you get 2.7 take the .3 off and your ohms will be 2.4
um it would be 2.67 ohms. which is almost the perfect load for an unmodded 1501 d it sounds like you may have a sub out of phase
i think you have something wrong

1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
the amp is modded to go all the way down to .5ohms. I dont know what could be wrong. I mean its loud, but not what I thought it would be like. Maybe I just had high expectations. What should they sound like? Anyone from MI wanna help?
what are you using as a subsonic filter nd what are u usingas one? were at in mi?
to repeat nate: it sounds like it could be out of phase
i'm in flint, MI. What do you mean they are out of phase? I think they wired them in series and parallel.
if its modded to go down to .5 ohm then it should be all pos together and all negs together. that is gonna give you a lower ohm load than series parallel can.
come to Duke's on Miller Rd. I'll go out and check it out with you. Where was your box made? And if you got the stuff locally, Duke's carries JL and MTX, so why not JL? I'll let you hear mine, you decide.
i had 810Motoring build the box and as far as mtx over jl I bought the subs last year because I thought mtx was so great and didnt research anything.
um... yea, I'll let you know when my box is finished and everything is wired up. I am also missing 1 mtx, i need 10 and only have 9 as of now. also the subs are going to be facing up rather than down once i cut the holes, the entire box will prob. be laid in carbon with fiberglass on the sides of the box/trunk.
about your ? a buddy of mine only has one 10 ( i think its like 5500 or something like that) and its really loud, i am not sure what amp he has.

Sorry, but that looks funny.
doesnt look like there would be enough air space to run 10 10's like that.... i might be wrong, but it just doesnt look like it would, and i also dont think it would sound very good, but if your running 10 MTX subs your probly not in it for SQ
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

i had lots of toys when i was young.slinky,etc.but once i found my penis, that was all she wrote
Once you flip them over I would dump a bag of ping pong balls in there and crank it up. Maybe make a clear trunk lid so you could watch.
