New alt Wiring?
Friday, November 04, 2005 6:15 PM
Ok go my new alt now i kinda lost the wire coming from it in the back of the engine.

Does this wire connect to the fuse box under the hood?

Can i just unhook the wire on both sides and run a new one? ( leaving the one there to take up space)

Will my 160 amp alt mess up my stock fuse box?

and last

Should I have gotten all these questions answered before i though of getting the alt.?

Why not try to find the old wire?

Seem like alot of work to trace it will all the orther wires in a loom. Would hate to cut up my wire loom and have to replace all that too.

The wire goes through a fuseable link and to the battery.

No, it doesnt go to your fuse box, and you wotn screw anything up.

I would suggest running a good 4-ga wire for your alternator. Just straight from the alternator to the battery. You can use a fuse if you wish, buit not required. If you do, make it 25-50 amps BIGGER then your alternater output.

You're reading my line-break, you are a loser.

OK got a haynes repair manual for 1995 - 2004 cavy and fire.

Wiring diagram states that the main wire goes from alternator to fusible link to starter solenoid to the battery.

The wire from battery and the wire from alternator connects to the solenoid at the same spot.

My car is set up Big 3 already with the power wire coming from the alternator straight to the battery.

Has anyone ever installed a higher amp alternator without rewiring the wire to solenoid.

Not that i am being too lazy, just wanna get this done working 12 hour days with no light outside after dark just looking for a quick install on a lunch break......
