Mounting a bazooka tube in the trunk
Wednesday, November 02, 2005 3:49 PM
I bought a bazooka BTA8200 and also bought the mounting hardware for it. I want to mount it right behind the back seat and i was wondering what is underneath the metal in that part of the trunk. I wouldnt want to drill into the gas tank or anything.

I drive an 02 cavalier

I have the exact same sub. Which side of the trunk are you putting it in? I have mine on the drivers side, 98 cavalier. You can lay on the ground and look under the car, on mine, there's only the gas tank in the center, nothing on the sides.

I was also considering mounting it to the spare tire cover piece but i think that it would move around.

The whole cover would slide around, yes. The instructions say it's best to place it in a corner anyway.

That's how I have mine.

alkatmsu does your bass seem muffled or any less intense with it being over there compared to if it was right behind the back seat?

When I first put it in, it was about 3 inches farther from the rear of the trunk. I pushed it back farther (closer to the trunk wall) and the bass got tighter. Bazooka's instructions say to place the woofer so that it is 2-4 inches from the trunk wall. That makes it reverberate through the whole trunk. If the sub was against the back seat, it wouldn't be nearly as strong. When I open the trunk and have it playing, the bass disappears.

I thought about getting one of these and mouting it hanging from the package tray area in the trunk....But now I am not sure...

Where is the 'package tray area?'

When I got the Bazooka, I was looking for something that was easy to put in, didn't take a lot of room (preferably something that I could wedge into that useless corner), and has decent power. The Bazooka is perfect for that. The 8 inch version has JUST enough room to clear the trunk hinge.

For my needs, it's great, but if the above reasons aren't important to you, go for a regular sub.

I've been looking to scale down my 2 10"s to something more autox removal friendly than my huge box.

How do these do as far as powerfull base.

Not worried about rattling the neighborhood.

But when I put the song Replacement Killers by the Chemical Brothers I want to hear it and good!.

I'd say it's pretty powerful. When I have it cranked up (not messing with the equalizer settings in the slightest, all flat), my rear view mirror sometimes vibrates so much I can't see anything in it. This is with the rear seat open, mind you... if it was down, it'd be even stronger.

I use Dark Lotus- Pass the Ax to test lows, and Nelly- Over and Over Again to test how it 'thumps' and I've been very pleased.
