I didn't see anybody post this before and I thought it was kind of interesting.

World’s Most Powerful Subwoofer!

No, it’s not a fan. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the world’s most powerful subwoofer: the Eminent Tech TRW 17. Rather than your garden variety 10 or 12 inch paper cone pulsating back and forth, this subwoofer creates a wall of air as big as your living room. In other words, the entire room becomes a resonating box!
By rotating the fins and modulating the speed, frequency goes all the way down to 1Hz, the territory of jet engines, nuclear explosions and plate tectonics. By comparison, your typical sub hits 20Hz on its best day.
With a price of $12,900, the TRW 17 is for rap superstars only. Rumor has it smaller versions are in the works as well as one model specifically for cars — naturally, you must present your rap superstar ID at time of purchase.

Is this similar to the old PG Cyclones?
That's pretty cool. And it really works???????

I thought it was illegal to market anything that was designed to have a frequency near 7 Hz. This is the fundamental frequency of the human kidneys. If air around you vibrates at that freq. than you instantly have to piss and eventually if it continues your kidneys can detach themselves. France worked on designing a weapon to use this, but gave up cuz they couldn't figure out how to protect their own soldiers. If you wanna take over the world, this might be something to consider investing in!
I dont think this thing will ever be marketed there is a thread at termpro about it also and that is the general consensus. There is no need for a speaker to be able to reach that low especially if most music will never touch the low 20s. even mid 20s.
Yeah the only question that comes to mind is WHY?
Arent the 'Rap Superstars' speakers already loud enough?

music, no, but for theatres there is a use for the lower frequencies because they add a "feeling" more than a noise

Mythbusters for the win!!
They did this test on mythbusters with Adam being surrounded by subwoofers and a few thousand watts. They played a spectrum for I think 6 - 8 Hz. Nothing happened. He did not even feel like he had to pee.
Myth is BUSTED. I love that show.
And FYI, they were playing it so loud he needed to wear the hearing protection and they monitored his vitals the entire time.
The only thing that it did was I THINK raise his heart rate a little bit.
1 hz, i dont see how you coud actually feel vibration. 1 hz means one pulse per second. that would just e a big blast of air each second.. no "bass" feeling. more like a kick in the chest.

gunshot concussion, concussion from an explosion. if it can "hit" hard enough to reproduce the same feel as the real thing, THAT would be an awesome thing.
Think of it like this, you already "jump" when a shocking moment occurs. Now, imagine the same event, say a bomb straifing run in a movie, with this added piece. IF it can reproduce the "feel" of the event in the movie. imagine your reaction. with each bomb going off, your whole surroundings react and you are immersed in what you are seeing, since now you can feel it.
Musically, it is junk, since music is heard, not felt, but for audio enhancement of events, it might rock.
Does anyone here remember the phoenix gold cyclones that were popular years ago? I think it's basically the same principle, but looks like they've made some improvements.
The cyclones were great for reproducing low frequencies, but they were limited to 20hz. The response was very linear. Many people complained because they bought them expecting massive spl increases which wasn't the purpose of the cyclone. It was for accurate low frequency replication.
I've heard a few and can say that in a well designed system they really made a difference. In a poor system they sounded awkward. They've been discontinued, but you can find them for sale occasionally especially on the pg forums. I'd definitely consider one for myself if I was still into high performance audio.
short description
Here's a pic of 3 installed.
Servo drive subs were invisioned and first attemted by Thomas Danely...then put to use by Phoneix Gold in their Cyclone servo drive sub...but even though Danley told them not to make it out of plastic, they still did so it fell apart after about 6 months heavy useage. So he sold his patent to Servo Drive systems or some @!#$ and they build stage monitors now that are a hybrid of the technology. You can make your own if you really want to with a couple of variable speed dc motors or get fancy and do it with AC. I doubt you'll get 13k for it though...lol

Interesting...I have lots of servo drives and motors just sitting around work. I use them for speed and positioning control for various equipment. Looks like I have something to keep me busy for a while.
