ok im sure you all kno about that annoying "shift for best gas milage" light on the cluster
my question is, is there anyway i can change that into like a real shift light, like set it to come on at 6000rpm or something
If you are looking for a 6000 RPM shift light I assume you are going to be racing right? If that is the case then I would go with something bigger/brighter the stock shift light as you said is more of a reminder if you are racing you might not see it right away and at 6000 RPM that is not a good thing. Is it possible to do I really don't know but I would guess it's possible.

Even if it can be done it would be easier and cheaper to get a proform shift light.

yes true,. but i really dont want a large shift light on my dash or anything
I always wondered about this as well, but i figured it was programmed into the pcm, maybe a tech2 could change it.
My shift light doesnt come on until the rpms stop moving.
one thing i noticed is that my light comes on at 5900 rpms i think.
so it is kinda a shift light, but only at a certain rpm. i would go aftermarket if possible, and yes it would be nice to have a clean dash and not some humungo tach blocking your view. it also kinda ruins the mild or sleeper look, even if your car has aftermarket exterior parts.
just pay some attention to the light and what it does.
my car is a 2003 btw, not sure if that matters.
tec2/tec3 will change it, in these modules you can program one of your outputs to be a shift light. Right now your shift light is programmed into your PCM so you cannot change it
put an aftermarket one in a blower vent, easier and more effective
The proform isn't really big.

hm i forgot about this light i covered it up right when i got the car..lol
im kinda curious about the shift light in the vent...how would you be able to get it to come on when you've reached the desired rpms? There a computer box or something you mount under the dash?
Thanks,
Dave
most aftermarket shift lights are adjustable by either a dial on the unit or a plug in module.

yeah the proform has a dial on the back to set it with. Just make sure your happy with the shift point or you have to take the whole dash apart to change it.
Im going to mount one on the side of my piller pod, on the middle pod, just the shift light and no tach.
Had it like that befoe whn i first installed the piller pod, but my autometer pro shift light quit qorking so i removed it and havent got a new one yet.
Worked great and easy to see, without having to look righ at it.

That pretty much says it all.
