Fuse amps
Tuesday, November 01, 2005 11:14 AM
Tha last few days I've been wiring in LED accent lights inside of my car. I have them grouned to the fire wall and have the power wire running to the fuse box inside the car. As of right now I have them hooked up to the HVAC fuse becasue its onlt hot when the cars turned on. I plan on putting it on its own fuse. My question is how big of a fuse should it use. 5,10,15 amps???? Thank you

LED's shouldnt take very much amperage. I would think the HVAC fuse would be more than sufficient. All depends on how many your running though

As of right now I have 4 LED's hooked up to the HVAC fuse

I'd think that'd be fine... I think Red LED's are something like 0.3 volts each? like I said I know they're not that much, which is why they use LED's for ground effects (that, and you can do cooler stuff with LED's than actual neon)

But, other than that, someone else would probably be able to recommend an amperage for ya.

any specific reason the guy running home speakers in his car is giving electrical advice in this forum? it baffles me....

each led runs about 0.03 amps. that should answer your question.

Actually its 0.02 mv. I wouldnt worry about it. And BTW, whats problem with home speaker in the car? A speaker is a speaker.

oops. correction, 0.20 mA each. as long as you have the proper resistor/s I wouldnt worry about fusing them.

dude you're still wrong. its 20-30 MILLIAMPS each, not two tenths of a milliamp. 20-30 depending on the led. i said 30 for safety's sake.

Pick a fuse based on the size of the wiring. The led ratings don't really matter.

simple, between the type of voltage, impendence and whatnot, there are just many differences, a house speaker is made to run off a different power amount and type, and theyre just built to sound different in the environment, your not gunna be able to get good sound out of the audio equipment running it in a car, and the same for the opposite. its just not built for the same porpouses(sp?)

So with 4 LEDS hooked up to my HVAC fuse (15amps) safe for now?? Would I be able to run my air and stuff and LEDS with it blowing? I plan on putting it to its own fuse but not until I finish putting in all the LEDs

bahhhahahahahahahahahahahah wow. im not premium right now, so this will be my last post on the matter, apprently i dont sell and install car audio nor have i taken many classes on automotive diagnostics and electrical work.... but the guy who wants to rip his home stereo speakers outa the house and put them in his car wants me to take some lessons because i said thats a completely retarded idea...like i said, this is my last post in this argument, let them get back to the issue at hand, to the origional poster, sorry for the prolonged thread jack
