I replaced my old radio with a Pioneer head unit.
Old system had JVC amp and a 12-speaker set of Boston Acoustics, including speakers in the doors, rear deck and Q-Logic kick panels, tweeters in headliner, etc.
While I do NOT have a subwoofer yet, the system was nice and clean, great surround feel with bass that shook my mirrors and doors, etc. Not the loudest system in the world, but it was nice and I don't listen to much rap, etc so I just need a little bass.
Anyway, I took the old HU out and had a Pioneer 7700 installed. Tweets and mids sound great like before but I have VERY little bass. I have gone into the integral EQ and adjusted every setting every possible way with the same result.
Any chance that they forgot to connect my amp or something? Or does this new Pioneer just not have the same type of settings as the old one and I'm screwed until I get a sub? I used the "Jazz" setting on my stock radio and it was great. Its an 03 Cav.
This really blows - please offer some advice so I can have some info to kick some ass with when I take it back to the install shop.
Are certain speakers running and others not?
I'm going to blame remote turn-ons not connected.
Also, does it sound different when you have the radio on vs the CD player or other non-tuner source? They might have wired your remote turn ons to the power antenna lead.

I'll double-check, but I'm pretty sure all speakers are firing.
No change in bass level when using CD player vs. XM radio. They both feature a sharp, bassless sound.
I mean it almost hurts to listen to this system. All sharp tones with no bass to soften up the texture.
Thanks for the input so far - I have an appointment to have them look at it on Monday and I want to sound like I know what I'm talking about.
Any other theories welcome!
There may be a prize for the winning guess, but I can't guarantee they'll be honest about what they did wrong.
alot of Pioneer cd players have a high pass filter check and see if that is turned on, if it is then it will cut out the bass from your mids.
also if it has a sub out put turn that off and see if that help's some radios turn a high pass filter on if you have the sub output turned on.
how would you turn off a High pass filter on the Pioneer???
Thanx Charles
7700,
press rotary knob in,
turn to audio press again
turn to highpass filter, press to disable,
you said you were amplifed, it sounds to me like they may have the filters set too high on the amps, that's another thing to check

Abby, thanks for the input - I did as you said but there is no option to disable the filter. I did find an option to adjust an "HPF" (probably the same thing) but it only let me set it on 50, 100 or 125, something like that. Seems like setting it on the "50" has helped a little but I'm at work and will have to wait until I can drive around a little.
I'll discuss the other posts with my installer as well. I really appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks,
Steve
OK, I figured out how to disable the HPF completely and I think it's making a difference. Just took the car to the bank and back, though.
Plus, the new system has been in for almost 2 weeks and its getting hard to remember how it SHOULD sound.
But I think it's better - thanks and I'll be back with a prize announcement after testing this weekend.

ok, i have Pioneer 6x9's in the rear, 4x6's w/ 300Hz bass blockers in front, and Pioneer 6600 HU. I have great clear sound, and plenty of bass. for the he$% of it i just went outside to play with my HU, and found a huge difference in the bass output between having the HPF off and at 50. idk about yours, but for mine, the arrows for adjusting things in the menus are; up and down are used to turn the HPF on and off, left and right are for adjusting it. maybe that will help you.

be so glad that you doeck does not have a massive chrossover like mine.. so f-ing hard to tune.. It will literally take me 4 + hours worth of sitting and listhening to tune it to my tastes. MY battery went out a couple days ago (left the lights on..) and lost everything.. I nearly creid over it as well lol. NOW I have to re adjust the C/O... EQ......Bass focus.. TIme correction (doeesn't take long)... ect.
