Well a couple questions actually. I was at best buy looking for an amp, I found a
Kenwood Amp and it was pounding on 2 Alpine Type-R 12s, same as mine. And my friend how has done car audio since he was about 15 was helping me out (he works in CA there) and I was amazed by the sound. So I have the amp here, unopened just yet, and talking to another guy who's all up on with car audio and he says I'm going to be WAY underpowering the subs. Which is true here? Will I have to sell/return this amp and get a more
powerful amp?
AND .... my last question is .... How do I wire up 2 subs to a single channel? Do I need a distribution block? I am looking at the 4ohms diagram @ the RF website still puzzled about that.
As before, I have the Kenwood amp, stats in the link, along with the 2 Alpine type R 12s, 500watt RMS each, dvc, 4ohms.
Thanks a bunch all!
The KAC-9102D puts out 500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (850 watts x 1 at 2 ohms), according to Crutchfield, so it would be fine if the subs are wired in parallel to create a 2 ohm load.
The other amp would only give you 900 x 1 at 2 ohms (according to Cardomain).
Here is a wiring diagram, assuming the voice coils are 2 ohms each. Pay no attention to the third black lined speaker.

You know what happens when you ASSume right?

Here is the correct way to wire them:
Best you can get is 500w@4ohm for the pair. They will be underpowered but still sound good.
The second amp is 1ohm stable so you could wire like this:
You'll get 900w@1ohm for the pair. 450w/ea will make a pair of Type-Rs pound like mad.
Here is the amp I would recommend:
Directed Audio 1500D Refurbished $155
DEI makes very nice amps and it will give you 1100w@1ohm (second diagram) which is just over the recommended RMS for the Type-Rs.......I hope you like you music lound and have a nice front stage......
