Sound deadening a 96 Cav.
Wednesday, October 19, 2005 3:02 PM
So I'm in the midst of installing all my car stereo stuff...nothing heavy duty. Panasonic CQ-C8400 headunit, pioneer speakers, pheonix gold xenon amp, JL 10w6 in highoutput box. Like I said, nothing seriously nuts or anything, but enough I am sure to get things rattling and @!#$. So now my question is where should I focus on sound deadening? I haven't installed it fully yet so I don't know whats going to rattle yet. Where are your trouble spots on the 96 two door. Also, what would you recommend, spray on or stick on applications. The trunk I'm already planning on doing the top and bottom, and if need be the sides also with some stick on matt type stuff. Thanks for the help.

all depends on your budget, if you have allot of cash to spare, do it all. if your on a tight budget, get the system up and running and pinpoint your worst spots and fix them first.

I noticed my doors, rear shelf, and license plate rattle......I have a 97 2 door Cavalier, you might wanna try there.

cool, thanks for the help on the problem areas to look at.

Yes the budget is as of right now limited, so I'll just buy some stuff and look at the spots howe mentioned and also any other spots I notice rattles and @!#$.

if your on a budget also know that allot of rattles can be fixed with foam or some other cheap alternative i stock up on foamy door weatherstripping and cushy headliner material. works great for sticking on the backside of plastic pieces that tend to rattle allot in j-cars

the biggest problem i always had with mine was the entire deck lid, 4 12's in a bad box configuration can direct the entire force straight up , contributing to spot-wield breakages and a flimsy trunk lid (not to mention complete loss of spl) (good thing i changed to 2 eD 12's ported)

not saying you should jump on the task of fixing your trunk lid, just saying every car is different. so your best bet would be to install then wait to find out what rattles, or do everything in the car before.
