actually, its to install an AVIC which needs to have the VSS tapped for accurate readings for the Navi...

ding ding ding, we have a winner
i beleive the VSS is located on the top side of the transmission, either that or the reverse switch, if its not on top, its on bottom, theres only 2 sensors on the manual tranny, not sure on the auto

its for a pioneer avic N1.. The rest of the install is done, i just need to know whare the wire is..
thanks..
like i said, its on the transmission, the manual tranny has 2 sensors on it, the vss is the one with a yellow and purple wire on it (i think). the other one is the reverse sensor. the automatic tranny may have an extra sensor, but i think the vss is on top of the tranny

98 Sunfire GT? Should have a green/white wire in the factory radio harness that has speed pulses. 4000 per mile. Beats hunting around in the engine bay for a wire.
really, whats it for, that automatic volume control or something.......why would a radio need to know your speed?

Speed Controlled Volume (SCV). A radio feature in the premium models... but most 95-99 cars came with the wire anyway.
ooh, arent j bodies fancy now......too lazy to turn it up when going faster

If you had it, you'd realize what a nice feature it is!! I miss it.. only feature I liked on the factory deck that my aftermarket one doesn't have.
i know id like it, im jealous because i don't have that feature. im a lazy bastard, i want the car do change the volume for me

I always found the volume leveling kind of annoying when I used to drive the Blazer my parents had. I always turned it off or put it on the lowest setting. I like to have my volume set at the level I want, not going up and down as I drive. I dunno, that's just me i guess, everyone has their preferences...
I like it. It's a gimmick, but it amuses me.
As mentioned, you can set it to a level you like, or just turn it off entirely.
I've got it on the highest setting.
^^^same, i always keep it on the highest setting. Only problem is on mine it only detects large jumps in speed. like on ramps or when i really get on it. it doesnt go up subtly
