I'm looking to install some new 6.5" components. Right now I'm looking at the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1's, the JL audio xr650-CXi's and the Kicker RS65.2's. The reviews i've read about the infinity's say they are lacking in the midbass section. That's not a good thing in my book. I haven't been able to find too many reviews on the JL's but everything i've read about them says "they're awesome." That doesn't really tell me much. Does anybody have any experience with them?
As for the Kicker RS65.2 's, they look good on paper, but i'm a little worried about the senivity being so low (87) and the RMS being so high. I'm thinking i'm going to need a large amp to push them?
I'm looking to get a JL audio 300/4 amp. Any other reccomendations?
Thanks
I have the JL conmponents, VR though, and they are awesome
Seriously, they are, the midbass is perfectly dosed ( not artificially punchy ), midrange is there and extremely detailed, and the highs are perfect. I do prefer silk dome tweeters for their smoothness; harsh and overly bright highs are bad in my book. If I remember correctly, the Kickers have metal tweeters right?

Cool... I'll be sure to check them out now... Right now, i'm 75% getting the JL's, I'm just wondering if there are any speakers that I am missing (i'm sure there are). The Kicker's have Tetoron tweeter. This is a synthetic material that is supposedly perfect for tweeters.

Jason, I do realize your point, i just wanted to make sure that there weren't any obvious mistakes. Thanks for the input though.
what about audiobahns components. Thats what i was lookin into? Sorry dont mean to jack your thread man
get the CSi's, (components) the CXi's are coaxial.
I have 2 sets of 525CSi's up fron tin my car. I love em, VERY good Midbass, and very detailed HIGHS
My Bass/Midrange/Treble are all set to FLAT, I let the speakers, their crossovers and my 450/4 take care of the rest. No need to boost any freq. I think. I use to turn my treble up and my Bass down, now that I have nice Components in my doors, I see what I've been missing. Sometimes I turn my subs down, alomost all the way and crank it up in the driveway with my windows up and just listen to the music. When I do that I usually listen to some insrumental, or vocal tracks, I love Mariah Carey songs, they really show me what the speakers can do.
Also I made "Door Pods" and they are sealed, and I think that made a good amount of difference in SQ over just mounting them in the door opening. If you mount them in the door, make sure to deaden the door skin, and all surfaces around the speaker, and make a gasket to fit up tight to the door panel so the sound comes through it and not behind it.
No, that's cool, man. I haven't thought about audiobahn components... I didn't think they were made for clarity, but i really dont konw.
i run the XR series...they have nice smooth highs...midbass isn't THAT great, could be more. i'd suggest a nice sealed door environment for them.

BTW mine are XR's also

The extra tewwter for each set is in the center dash vent.
Thanks for the input everybody! much apprieciated.
James: don't the extra tweeters in the middle of your dash kill your sound staging?

By the woofers being side by side it gives more of a "taller" presence instead of thinking it would make it wider. And the Tweeters on top of the dash make the soud stage seem higher up and mot like it is coming form the lower door area.
When I wen to JL last spring, All the DEMO cars that they had were set up just like mine, and even our JL rep has his like that also. Manville Smith has the same fronts set up I have in his Suburu Legacy Wagon.
i run kappa perfects, and i'm satisfied, although i wish they were louder. i'm pushing 150 watts to them and i still keep asking for more. i might switch to CDT HD series soon, as i've heard nothing but good things about them.

What are you talking about? We have already sold 2 sets and they sound AEWSOME! So do the 25th Anniversary eXcelon Components. But yeah we have sold 2 sets of ZR's and that was a few months back. They come in a Black Breifcase style box.
when were they released?

I tested the JL 650 CXi's at Car Tunes and I was kind of suprised at the lack of bass in them. The high's sounded awesome, but in my car my 6x9's put out a lot more bass than these components... Is that normal or what? thanks for all the help

Yeah, the XR's. Would the sound wall make them less bassy? i don't know.
Also,I found a JL 300/4 on e-bay for $350 shipped... anybody found a better price??

get a 300/2...rear speakers are over rated
and yea..a soundwall is gonna be WAY different then in a semi-sealed environment like a car door.

I was thinking about that, but the RMS wattage for the 650cxi's is 70watts. If i use the 300.2, i'll be pushing 150watts to each speakers... i didn't think that was a good idea lol.

maybe if your listeing to test tones...but with music, that's fine.
the 300/2 is a perfect match for the XR's

i push 150 to kappa perfects and they're rated 90 rms. you'll be fine with the 300/2 and it'll sound much better/louder.
The guy at car tunes also said that he had trouble installing the 6.5" JL's in a cavy because they were too deep. Any body have that problem?
