ok i read the sticky and it says that the holes in the back of the cavaliers are for 6x9's but for some reason mine are 5x7's is this normal or do i have a freak car. I just bought some pioneer 6X9's and they dont fit in the holes. is there an adapter i can get or do i have to make the holes bigger?
thnx
no they are 6x9s...they wont fit in the holes...gm's brilliant design...you need to englarge the hole..mount them on top of the carpet or(the way i chose) mount them from the bottom.
Actually, the pioneer's basket might be too big. Get a piece of 2" MDF board, and make some custom baffles to mount the speakers to. Cut some holes in your rear deck, mount the speakers on top, baffles on the bottom, and it should sit fine once you reinstall.
Its not a convertable its a 99 Z24 Coupe and thats what my friend did to his mustang, mount them through the bottom. Do i just drill the holes through the metal then screw them in or is there a certain way your supposed to do it . because im not sure if the hole is big enough to allow the speaker to travel all the way. if that makes any sence.

you lil pervert!
lol
only on the org can that be taken that way...haha
but Andrew K. i actually used the stock speakers bracket and modified it to work from the bottom. had to cut off the from and use a bolt to hold the tray up there...best part is if i ever want to change speakers all i have to do is unscrew them from the bottom
On my old BFZ... I just grabbed my tin snips and cut the hole larger... my Type R 6x9s fit in no problem...
I mounted my sony xplods on top of the carpet with no problems

What if you dont have the stock speakers from back there and what do you mean by mounting them from the top of the carpet? does that mean cut holes in the carpet and screw them to that?
Car's dirty but you get the idea

I would be worried about getting my @!#$ jacked if i mounted it on top of the carpet. I just cut the @!#$ out of the plates until my RF 6x9's fit. then screwed the speakers to the mounts and snapped them into the car.

Good point, My windows are uber dark and you can't see the speakers from the outside. Theft is definetly something that should be taken into consideration.

Oh, ok. from your pics, it looked ike the windows were stock. If i had tint when i installed my rears, i would have thought of mounting them on top of the carpet.
mine are really tinted and im gonna get the back redone to as dark as i can legally. but is there any way to make sure that they are secure if i mount them on top of the carpet
Strange. Mine mounted right up with no problems.
well, before cutting any holes in the carpet of the rear deck, send me an email

I did that when installing my 6X9 but now I'm not running any rear speakers so I'm stuck with useless speakers to fill those holes. I'd be willing to do a trade.

Thanks!

I had to mount my infinity 6x9's under the rear deck.. make sure you use the included spacers or else the woofers will hit the deck

Cavillac
but i didnt get any spacers with the speakers and i dont have an adapter and i dont think that a 6x9 adapter will fit a 6x9 in a 5x7 hole unless its sitting up there pretty high.
AHAHAHAH FREE????? that's funny. How much does crutchfield overcharge??? I've seen them charge more than MSRP for somethings.
yea the little plastic piece around the stock speaker is the adapter. screw it in there the fit is a little tight
