Ok, so here is the deal! I want to setup a system in my car and was wondering if I should get a 5 channel amp or 2 different amps.... I really dont know the pros and cons of having one amp over 2 and likewise....Any input appreciated!

I have a rockford mono block D class amp that puts out 900 watts peak for my subs and a kenwood 4 channel amp that puts out 70 watts per channel running my speakers
the output of both are incredible
dunno much about 5 channel amps but i would think that if you want raw power a 5 channel isnt going what you want cuz its not gonna provide the juice you want

Nothing wrong with 5-6 channel amps, but it all depends on what you're running and what you want to do. One of the nice things about 5-channels is that you only have to install 1 amp, and all the crossovers are in 1 spot. Most of the sub channels on 5 channel amps are only 2-ohm stable. That's fine if you have 2 4-ohm subs or a single dual 4-ohm sub (cuz you can wire it up to 2 ohms to get the most out of your amp). However, you can't do that if you have 2 dual 4-ohm subs (can only wire it at 1, 4 or 16 ohms), or anything that can't be wired up to get a 2-ohm load to try and get the most out of your amp. I say "try to get the most out of your amp" because subbass takes alot of power to produce - you don't need to put 300wrms into a 300wrms sub for it to sound wicked, but you'll get more out of your subs if you can put a decent amount of power to them.
It also depends on what you want your system to do. If you're looking for SPL you might be better off getting 2 amps just to try and put extra power to your subs (like a big class D for subs, 2-4 channel for highs).

I ran a four channel alpine to fronts and a sub for a while (no rear speakers). Nothing wrong with a 5-channel.
If you want to street beat and annoy your neighbors, you're going to want a big sub amp. I don't know of many 5-channel amps with 1000w+ on the sub section.
