Experience with Ultra Brand Starters/Alarms?

Does anyone here have experience with Ultra Starters/Alarms? (www.ultrastarters.com)

Specifically owning or installing as a professional installer?

I had one (starter+2-way pager alarm) installed a few weeks ago. Right away it started to randomly trigger the alarm. The shop quickly claimed it was due to a faulty module because the pager rarely updated when the alarm was triggered. So they replaced it with an FM pager.

Now it seems to notify me everytime the alarm is triggered, and it doesn't seem to trigger as often, but I think I might have found a pattern.

It seems as if when the pager is just at the limit of it's range (where it is going in and out of range) this is when the alarm will trigger. Almost as if since the pager is trying to update, it triggers the alarm.

Now obviously, this would have to be some sort of flaw, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this.

The shop that installed it was horrible and it is a fight everytime I take it back. They scratched my car, installed the wrong alarm twice, rolled it into a curb and had really horrible customer service in general.

From a business stand-point, I can understand them not wanting to give me my money back without trying to fix it, because they have put in about 20 man hours so far. But they seem to be doing half ass fixes in an attempt to "just get rid of me"

Anyway.. way off topic. That's not the point. Point is, does anyone know if this is a common issue? Google didn't turn up any results.

I'm not expecting anyone to answer, but I'm desperate because I have a useless alarm that I had to disconnect the siren on.

Thanks.

Never heard of them, have you tried speaking with the manager or the owner of the place where you have been getting it worked on??

Wow, that sucks man.
Until this post I've never heard of ultrastar (I can say that Clifford, Viper and Compustar are all pretty good). Try calling ultrastart's support line to see if they've had any similar complaints - it's online, and maybe they can help you out.. You should also do as Donovan mentioned and speak with the manager/owner about the horrible service you've received at his shop. What they've done is pretty inexcusable - no paying customer should have to deal with idiots like that.
Best of luck! Let us know how things turn out.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I was dealing with the owner from the beginning. Unfortunately this kind of behavior is common in stores (any store) all over Toronto.

I've tried contacting Ultra Starters directly, but they only deal with registered dealers.

I'm still taking logs on when it triggers and what is happening when it does. It's completely out of hand. It has gone off over 25 times (that I know of) so far since Saturday.

I wish I knew someone in the business that I could have contact them (Ultra) and get some inside info.

If you dont mind my asking how much did you pay for this and how long have you had it?? There is a dealer locator tab on their website, you could look and see if there is another place in your area and try to take it to them. sorry to hear that the owner is the one giving you such a hard time. have you tried to get them to give you your money back??

well are the door triggers set up right? I have a 01 2200, i kjnow you have a 02 z24 but in my car its two wires that need diodes. Maybe i thinks the doors are open when its trying to update. Its just a wild guess, you need to check everything. If worse cimes to worse see if you can send it back to the company for a replacement, or try to return it and get yourself a DEI system.

Thanks to both of you. I've had it for 4 weeks now and have brought the car back each week with the exception of this week (Thanksgiving). I paid $570 CAD which included installation. I had two cars done at the same time but the other car was in a Civic and it was the absolute basic unit without remote starter. It seems to be working fine. But again, that one is not a 2-way unit, nor is it a remote starter.

I've called another dealer who say they are sure they can get it working, but I would need to pay them hourly for the time put into it. Plus, since I didn't buy it from them I don't imagine they would just replace a defective unit.

I don't want to have to pay more for this so I am kinda stuck with getting the original company to work it out. They said last week that if they didn't get it to work, they would give me my money back; but it "appeared" to be working when I left, since it is random.

I'll find out more this week about that subject.

I'm not sure if the door triggers are set up right or not.. It is very possible. But again, since it is completely random, it is hard to tell. I really don't want to leave my car with them without me around.

It's something will definitely note in my logs though. Thanks.

Well today the shop called me. After taking it back to them every Saturday since they installed it, and even mentioning to them that it was the door triggers, and specifically that it was required diodes in the door triggers, they said that they need to put some diodes on the door triggers.

Imagine that.

They are supposed to come to my work on Wednesday and put them in. Hopefully that fixes it.

Thanks for the input guys, especially illdwes. I'll let you know how it works out.
