NEED help with DEI passlock For remote start?!?!?!
Thursday, September 29, 2005 12:10 PM
well i got my remotes start wiring down all i need is the passlock module and i have no idea it needs some resistor codes maybe someone already hasthe resistor code needed for my 1996 cavalier. anyway here is some info

this is where i get lost..

it says i need a resistor code.. it has 10 switches that can go up or down and a book full of codes.. i have no idea how to find these? i would imagine there all the same for cavaliers so if anyone has this code already it would be GREAT.. please let me know
the switch going DOWN would mean its ON.. and UP=OFF

What model # did you get?

The DEI module for my car had no dipswitches...

@!#$ maybe i got some kind of @!#$ universal one.. it said it was for 96 cavalier i have to test the polarity or whatever with a volt meter and then hook it up mine is like 555t

Egad... you'd have to measure the resistance (R-code) that your car generates then figure out how to set the DIP switches to match it. Each key is different, so in theory no one else's R-code would be the same as yours (but going by the number of tumblers in a J-car ignition, there's only so many possibilities... so in theory... 1 out of like 10000 keys would work in your car)

The 555L learns automatically... no DIP switches.

get rid of whatever you got and get the 555L, itll save you a ton of headaches.i used to have one of those cheap ones and it would work sometimes and not others and was a pain in the ass to install. It took me about 20 min to hook up the 555L and it worked the first time and hasnt failed since.

you have black, yellow, and white for your passlock wires..
you need to go to the black wire to ground the unit, and then cut the yellow wire in half, the keyside of the wire goes to the white wire on the bypass, and the car side of the wire goes to the while/black wire..

then, turn the car on, and let the car learn the bypass code.. its very easy..

Scott... his doesn't auto-learn.

It's a universal one you have to program the R-code into. That requires actually reading the resistance (read: R-code) of the ignition key, with a multimeter and setting the resistance with DIP switches.

ok im not sure.. i can get a volt meter.. and test the resistance.. but i dont get wut the hell to do from there it came with a book of codes and it makes no sence... maybe you guys can figure this out.. this is one page. i obviously don know how to read the codes i get the first 9 1,0. ect up and down but after that and the bigger digit numbers im lost anyone know?

like i said.. i have no idea what the last 4 rows mean .. the first like 10 are if the switch goees up its like 1 and if it goes down its 0. thats all i know i dont know how to actually find the r-code on there

Those are resistance values.

Basically, you need to measure the resistance generated (the R-code) on the three wires.. I'm not sure which one of the three ,since I've never done it that way. But I understand the principle.

Then find the closest resistance in that table, then set the 10 switches that way. The first 8 by the first 8 columns in the table, then the 9th and 10th switches by the top of the table. See where it says 9=0, 10=0.. that's 9 and 10 off.. and so on...

Make sense yet?

It's a crappy universal piece. Total junk. Kudos to you for having the patience to use it
