How to get low beams to stay on with high beams??
Wednesday, September 28, 2005 8:12 PM
Hey guys, a quick question that I have maybe someone can help out with. I have put in a set of Lexus HID lights in my 94 sunbird. I'm using them as my low beams right now. I want to add another set of HID's as my high beams, but my car is setup so that when the high beams are selected, the low beams shut off. Is there some type of relay that I can use so that the low beams will stay on when the high beams come on? Any help/info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul Moore

Single bulb set-up's (ie - Sunfires 95-02) it is not recommended. The bulbs are not designed to handle the heat of dual filament usage for extended periods of time. The bulb can and will melt.

Dual bulb set-up's (ie - Original poster) can be accomplished with the use of a relay on the low beams with a power wire in parallel with the stock wire, using the high beams as the trigger.

Now why you would need 4 HID bulbs burning at one time is beyond me. The point is to not burn the retinas of oncoming traffic.

Well, that's just it. Ever since I put the HID's in my headlights people are always high beaming me. I have my front headlights pointed so far down so they don't look as bright to oncoming traffic, but I still get flashed. So, my point is to have the HID as a high beam also so I can see excellent at night with no traffic, but when someone high beams me, I can hgih beam them back with all 4 HID's. Should make things interesting

I'll be the first to say it -- you're a fuc*ing retard.

People aren't "flashing" you because they find the practice to be enjoyable -- THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE SEEING BECAUSE OF THE BRIGHTNESS OF YOUR LIGHTS. So, in turn, you want to blind them even more, and possibly cause an accident. With this being said, I'll reiterate my original statement...

You're a fuc*ing retard.

If you do follow through with your plan, and indeed you cause an accident, I can only hope that you will be the only person that dies.

Cheers a$$hole...

Actually, the HID's in my car now are NOWHERE near as bright as factory HID's in the Lexus and other cars. Like I said before, I have them aimed so far down to try to keep the intensity down. At night, I can only see the pattern of the lights on the road about 20-30 ft. in front of me just like a regular headlight distance but it's brighter.

Very nice! That is very HUMAN like of you to wish death on someone. Don't you realize that I was being sarcastic about the second part? You know, sarcastic, hence the reason for the
In all reality, all I want is to have all 4 bulbs as HID's and use them at night, and I make one stupid maybe, but sarcastic comment and you go off the handle? Very nice. It is comments like yours that start flame wars and gets people banned. It is not necessary. Maybe I will hook up my HID's like I want to and then drive up to wherever you live, find you, and then high beam you with all 4 of my HID's
See, I was being sarcastic again, that's why the is there.
Simmer down dude.

Do you have your HID's hooked up to a relay? Or just off the factory wiring?

If it's on a relay... use a diode. Simple. If not... put a relay in, then use a diode

Nope, no relay. The Lexus HID ballast box only has 2 wires, 1 positive and one negative. All I did was cut off the old low beam bulb connector and splice the low beam postive with the positive of the HID box. Same with the negative side. I have 2 seperate wiring harnesses for the low and high beams. That is the reason why I figured I needed the relay.
