I'm looking to finally upgrade my CD deck. I currently have a 6yr old Sony Xplode (all the dealers i've gone to can't believe that mine's lasted this long) ... but, anyways, i was looking at a few different types of MP3/CD decks, and came across 3 different brands that caught my eye. Alpine (model CDE-9843), i guess a bunch of pioneer ones and same with Sony. What would you guys recommend as a brand to go with? I still have stock speakers in my car, so the power wouldn't be the greatest.
thanx,

Alpine.. I have the 9855 awesome deck.. I love it.........
"Silver 2001 Cavalier z24 5 speed 2 door sunroof and power everything "
AEM Short Ram Intake
B&M Short Throw Shifter
Alpine, everywhere.
Replaced my components this year with alpine type-r's Best speakers ever. Nothing comes close in my experience.
Still debating on replacing my Pioneer headunit, till I can afford to get the apline with the i-pod link and an XM tuner for it.

Alpine period, i love them, their stuff has never let me down. my whole car is all Alpine and JL, and i try to sway all my customers to Alpine head units. they are by far the absolute best bang for the buck.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

i had lots of toys when i was young.slinky,etc.but once i found my penis, that was all she wrote
ive got the 9843 in my monte carlo and it is pretty nice, the sub controls and different tuning features are nice
i just put a 9831 in a guys car a few months ago, got a friend with a 9851. did a 9855 for a customer a lil while ago, im running a 9833, all these people, including myself are VERY happy with alpine head units

and as a matter of fact, a girl im doing some sub work for is getting a 9847 next week

Really happy with my Alpine CDA 9833
Alpine, thats all there is to it..
I know I'm the rebel on this, but I like a lot of the Sony head units. I've had great exeperiances with them and they work well with A/V installs

If you go with Pioneer, get a premier model. Mine is 7 years old and still fully functional. Best thing is that it has NEVER skipped and I've put it through hell (4x4ing, 150+db, I just can't seem to kill it). It's old-school ugly, but still works well.
Alpine's good, but I feel you pay too much for the name. Reliable, great cd/dvd players.
Have you thought about Eclipse?
I prefer Pioneer Premier but Alpine is good too
I've got a pioneer primier deck, its a really good deck for the price I got it. Only thing that i dont like about it is the time it takes to read the mp3 cds that i have. I pop in the cd and it takes about 25-30sec to load it before it starts to play. Had an alpine in the past and have nothing but good things to say about it. lasted me the 4 years i had the car. So far i'm up to 2 1/2 yrs with my pioneer and its still going fine.
ok ... so i bought the Alpine 9843 ...
now, i'm trying to figure out how to get the old one out from the spacer i have in there for the Sunfire's dash. i took off the trim plate, and now i'm just trying to figure out how to proceed. would i have to take out the entire dash? or would it just slide out?
if anyone knows of an online manual to do this (maybe with pictures or sumfin), it would really help.
Peace!

Install is really easy.
Do you still have the oem harness in the car? If so, get the correct connector, and its just plug and play.
If not...you'll have to hard wire it.
email me if you have any questions. I just installed a CDA-9851 in my car a few days ago.
i have a touch screen clarion i believe it is a dpz945.it is one year old and it totaly awesome.
Even though Alpine has taken a huge qaulity cut this year.. it still reigns the top dog. Pioneer is pretty much garbage unless you are using Premier stuff. Anything below the 9853 wise = not to great, but still decent.
Sony...... NO COMMENT. (THE ONLY decent Sony HU ever made = mp-80. a 650 $ HU limited to half a year production.)

I give up...

There's good reason that those dealers can't believe you've had it installed that long heh.

Ya'll are gonna try to give advice now?! I guess me and lanman31337 taught you well, young grasshopper

j/k
Xtinktor, since you already have an aftermarket HU, it needs to be 'released' from the sleeve in the dash. There should be a pair of like.... h311, I dunno what to call them, keys?? You put one in-between the HU and sleeve on each side of the HU and it releases the head-unit.
I know you're gonna love the Alpine haha.
I've got a Sony Xplod CDX-F7705X and I love it. I've had absolutly no problems with Sony decks over the years. Alpine's are definalty nice though, just a little to pricey for me at the local shops, I'd rather spend the extra money on amps or better subs.
