wheres your amp mounted? it sounds like your either getting it to hot or your pushing it to hard, have you blown any subs lately? also what kind of amp is it? i'm assuming your car is decently setup as far as a clean install so i doubt you can just move the amp, i always try to keep my amp in front of the sub so the air off the sub can blow across the cooling fins. You deffinatly wouldnt be overkilling to add a fan or 2, when your protect light comes on is the amp really hot or just kind of warm? most amps wont thermal untill 160 degrees or above so that gives you some idea of how hot it must of been to cause this problem.

ya it gets very hot.. but usually it should over heat and turn back on later on instead it just blows forever .. i have it mounted on the back of my box everything is hooked up right only thing i can do is lower my back seat and leave my windows down. it never happened until i got my screen.. but only thing from screen is remote and rca's so it cant be that. its blown twice in the last 3 weeks i sent it back to the manu. and they sent me a new one not sure how much longer they will never blew any subs.. subs are 1300 a piece amp is 1600 pushing 2 of them

i got 2 sony p5's.. 1300watt peak 380 rms a piece.. i dont have them bridged or anything i just have it hooked up one channel one speaker ect.. i have 4ga. wiring from batt and ground i believe there single coil subs.. the amp is 1600 watt peak and 600rms 4ohm. for some reason the dumb protect light just comes on and wont go off. i have to send it in AGAIN who knows how long it will take to get back this time

Dont mount the amp on the back of the box. the vibration and flexing from the box can really f-up your amps. It could also be that since it is mounted on its side the heat sinks are not working effiently enough. Or just buy a better quality amp.

Yeah it would help to know WHICH amp you are using

If I leave my rear seat down while i'm at work the sun will heat it up and it'll be on protect till it cools down but if it heats up and shuts down quickly u either Fubered up the wiring or u have a cheap amp

thats true.. it never went out until i mounted it on the BACK of the box i just remembered.. i always had it mounted on the TOP of the box thing that makes any difference? it was on the top of the box for like 6months and nothing happened 3 days after it was on the back of the box it @!#$ up i got a new one put it back on the box 3 days later it was dead again ..
i @!#$ up or i have a cheap amp i think those are quite dumb conclusions..
the amp lasted like 6 months with no problems while it was on the top of the box.

do you think i should just mount it on the top of the box or not mount it on the box at all?

WHAT AMP IS IT?!!?!

Actually "is it a cheap amp" is quite a good conclusion, I had a cheap P.A. LT-980 and it kept doing that and it finally blew up, now i have a Directed DEI 1100D and it never gets hot unless I misswire it.

Anyway it sounds like you got a cheap amp that cant handle ur subs...even if it says "1600" watts its probably like 230

i bought it all as a package ithad no problem the amp is 300x1 rms subs are 380x2rms its a soundstorm amp.. im really thinking it has to do with mounting it on the back of the box
