ok guys...working on my wifes car today, head is under the hood. car door is open so the alarm doesn't set. wife walks out and shuts the door. alarm set with my head under hood, scares the hell out of me, bump my head on hood.
poin...i need a valet switch (on my car and my wife's car). i know i just need to splice in to a wire with a switch. don't know what one. i'm limited on info too. not sure what kind of alarm is on the car (probably doesn't matter right?).
i just want a simple valet switch so i don't have to worry about a shop leaving the keys in the car and the alarm setting.
any help on what wire to splice in to?
thanks
brian
GO PATS!!!
The alarm should have an input for a valet switch, check the manual

wife threw it away when we moved...

If you know the brand of alarm, hit up their site. Should be a d/l'able manual there.
thats a good idea...i'll go find out what kind of an alarm it is. if i can't find out a brand name/model number, is there kind of a general way to do it? like just splice in to the power wire or something to that affect?

ok the make is a Devistetar. model number DEV700
i'm going to try to find a manual for it online. if anyone else knows a website or can find it faster than i can, it'd be very much appreciated.
thanks

I took a look on Google and there is nothing under dev700, devistetar, "devastator car alarm" or other variants of above.
yea i did the same thing with the same results.
does anyone know a universal way of installing a valet switch?
i called the place that installed the alarm for me. they want 30 bucks to put the switch in for me. i need to go there anyways so to have them install a relay on my factory trunk release for the accesory button on my remote, but i'd rather not spend the extra money if someone can tell me how to do it myself.
anyone??

There usually isnt just a universal wire you can throw a switch on and make it a valet switch...
Unless maybe putting one on the power wire, or ground- but I wouldnt do that...
Every alarm should come with a valet switch- the brain will have a spot specifically for the switch to plug into-- you would need one for programming the alarms options etc...
Most aftermarket alarms use a gray, gray/black wires as the valet switch...
If you were not the installer of the alarm, I would probably poke around under the dash- and see if you can find it... Look for a small harness plugged into the brain with those 2 wires coming out of it..
If you can locate a manual for the alarm, it would tell you how to change the option of passive/active arming-- Meaning, you can choose if you want the alarm to arm itself after 30-60 seconds...
alright, i'll go look around under the dash. thanks for the help
