Are you afraid of ghosts??

Haha, interesting title? nah.. didn't think so.

Anyways, here's the deal. My 1990 camry is now packing an MA audio 1000w amplifier and two 1000 watt 6ohm DVC Ultra Linear 10" subwoofers. I got a new stereo deck to go with it but the wiring is a little.... wacky. I'd do it like a normal deck SHOULD be done, but this... this is wierd. First off, lets go to the wiring.

The deck is connected like any other. Wire harness for the car, and the deck, matched color for color (as the manuals state the colors are in fact the same). I connected the ground first (to be safe, always the first wire to be connected to any electronic device for me), then all the speakers, then the accessory wire, and finally the 12v constant. But when I turn the car on, the deck doesn't, and none of the interior or exterior lights work at all. I accidentally touched the accessory wire and 12v wires together while looking for the problem, and I noticed the deck turned on. So, I just wrapped the 4 wires around each other, and it now turns on when I want it to (the lights and clock and stuff still dont turn on unless the deck is on though) Now... here's the wierd part. My car's lights flash, it turns over (starts), unlocks/locks the doors whenever it seems to want to. It does have command start but I was told by the dealer that it was disconnected, and the buttons on the remote never worked at all.

So... I think it's my deck doing this, but even when the stock deck was in I came outside one day to find it had started without a key, and I couldnt turn it off. I just waited a few minutes and it finally turned itself off. I never noticed this problem before until just tonight. I thought the command start worked the day the stock stereo was in. any chance it could be the amp? (I had a 550w amplifier set up in it the day I found it started, and it's doing the flashing lights and stuff while the 1000w amp is in, but I never noticed if it was doing it before there was an amp)

oh, by the way, I bought the aftermarket wiring harness so that doesnt really apply but the harness could also be wrong. Also, that info isn't exactly accurate. My camry has 7" rear speakers. the LE differs a bit from the others for some reason (not even the stereo mounting kit fits!! >.<

hey smart guy, that's NOT the wiring information for an aftermarket harness..it's what your stock wiring is.

if you have NONE of those wires hooked to your aftermarket harness..then you got problems

I know what you posted, I found the same thing on the12volt.com, its the wiring information for the stock stereo to tell me which wire is which. But the wiring harness hooks up to the stock harness (you should know this already), and all the colors on the aftermarket matched up to the deck, I never bothered to check if the stock wires matched up to the aftermarket (meaning yellow may not be the 12v constant)

why do i even bother?

ok...look...

your stock wiring might not be correct...double check your STOCK WIRES!!! to make sure they go where they are supposed to go.

okay, anyway, this is already going off topic, the actual question was what could be causing this problem. if someone else has has the same problem and fixed it, please post how you did it.

you gotta check your stock wires like i told you twice already to do.

obviously something isn't right...you "alledge" that your headunit is connected to the harness properly, so what's that leave?? the stock wiring!!

your switched 12'volt source is also obviously not connected properly, hence why it only works when you connect the constant and ignition wires.

the "command start" can't be disconnected if it's working, common sense would tell you that. i'd suggest disconnecting that completely to solve the issue of your car starting itself.

it's called basic troubleshooting...i can even do it halfway across the country from my desk!

If command start is working, then how come I cant turn it on when I want it to? Why do the lights flash randomly, and the doors unlock/lock? It's a brand new battery in the remote.
I dont know if my headunit is the problem, as it did it even with the stock one. which is why I said it may be the amplifier, which is VERY dirty (the 1000w smoked 2 fuses today... literally) but even with a clean one it did this. so, who knows what this could be? all your saying is how I can fix my headunit setup, and I will do that, as soon as I can figure out whats wrong (and as soon as I get one I like, rather than the only one I could afford). I'm not looking to start an argument here.

check all the wiring through out the whole car. especially the wires under the dash.

that may be of help, seeing as while I was installing the amplifier and new stereo deck, I pulled apart the bottom of the dash to access the wires and screws and such.

you could of course buy a better car

I said it's hooked up, i didn't say it works properly. If it works at all, then it obviously has power and is perfoming functions. Just disconnect it completely, problem solved.

I can only do so much from my desk over here...it's probably the same reason the rest of the cars wiring is fudged beyond repair

If it does it with the stock headunit too...then it's the wiring in the car. process of elimination will tell you that.

and if your amp is properly installed...it wouldn't blow fuses, even if it is a crappy brand. that's another problem for another day though, your amp doesn't have anything to do with your remote start or door locks.

no, you see, my amp is properly installed. The only thing that may not be properly installed is the wire gauge. I used 10 gauge wire for a 1000w amp, and have no power issues. I bought the amp and two 10" 1000w subs from a garage sale a couple weeks ago for $170 total. Aside from the amplifier smoking up and the second voice coil on the subs being wrecked (and causing the subs to sound like crap when the trunk is open) it was a pretty good deal I think. I was wondering why the amp and subs were so cheap, and now I see why, but oh well, they work, the amp works. Aside from the smoke coming up once in a while I'm happy. And the wiring for the amp could be shorting out at the source (battery) causing all this to happen. Anything is a possibilty here if you havent had it happen to you before.

Sam howe, I would have a better car than a camry, if of course the timing belt on the car didn't snap. The other car was my CRX (you'll find it in my profile) but because my job requires a readily available car at all times, I had to buy the first car I could find that would work for a while. I found the camry at Village Ford Lincoln, for $4995 with 179,000 km on it. I'm thinking now I should've gone with the 4-banger but this car is decent on gas (for a V6) and moderately quick.

I'm taking it up to the dealer soon to see if they have any idea why it does this, seeing as they are the ones who disconnected the command start and restored it and such.
