multimeter?

i heard that some multimeters can tell you when a amp signal is clipping. is that true? how much would they run for? it would definatly make stereo installs easier cause then i could just turn the gain up till i see the wave clip or something. i'm really bad at hearing distortion so i have a hard time setting gains sometimes.

that looks expensive..

so i hook up the leads to the amp outs and then turn the gain up till i see the signal clip and then back off a little? gonna check ebay and see if i find one at a decent price.

i understood most of it. seems setting my gains correctly is harder than i thought
