JL product buddy but thanks for trying anyway
I'd put $100 on it not being a JL product. Unless it's REALLY old, at least in the last ~6 years, they have never made a square sub (and i'm pretty positive kicker was the first manufacturer to start making square subs in the recent past).
If it's got a 3 ohm load though, it's either a single 3 ohm voice coil, dual 1.5's wired in series, or dual 6 ohm's wired in parallel.
I can guarantee JL never made a Square Sub. Also Kicker never made any Solos that were able to produce a 3 ohm load. This is really wierd. Please pull the sub out and let us know what it is. Im really intreaged now. Maybe im wrong so please dont bash me if i am but im 99% sure of what i said.

JL's come in dual 1.5/dual 2/dual4/dual 6/svc 3/ svc 4/ svc 6
JL also made 15w0, w1, w3, w4, w5 and w6...all 15 inch subwoofers.
3ohm isnt a different brand, its the resistance of the coils in the subwoofer and any sub company can have 3ohm coil subs.
Sony made square subs(infact they were the first back in the 70's). Crunch makes square subs as does hart and pryamid and lanzar.
