Tweeter Question
Saturday, June 18, 2005 6:12 PM
First of all, i did search but there's just far to much information to look through to find exactly what i need.

Everyone deserves a newbie question every now and then, so here's mine...

I've finally decided that my system has way too much lows and not enough highs. The easy solution would be to tune my amp down some to equal it out, but i like my bass. So i'm going to add tweeters. Question is, where do i hook them up to? Do i split them into my front channel with my door speakers? Do i have to amp them? i really have no idea.

i had tweeters in my 1983 celica and i just hooked them up to the front channel of the stereo cuz my front speakers were blown, but i blew the tweeters constantly. so i need to know how to hook them up. any help is appreciated.

thanks guys
brian

You can just splice them into the stock from speakers wires but you MUST put a high pass crossover on them. A lot of newer tweeter sets come with a set, just put one on either the positive or negative speaker wire to the tweeters. Sending frequencies at or below the resonant frequency to a tweeter will blow it instantly, which is most likely what was happening to you before.

Yup, I would check local shops. If you have anybody you trust, go ask them to recommend something, but listen to it first if possible to make sure you like the sound.

If you have the means, you might consider going for a component set. That way, you know you have a good crossover, and the tweets are designed to work well with the front woofers. Just a suggestion.

save up a few more bucks and get a good componet set and an amplifier to run them. tweeters only cover 15% of the music, you need a good midrange to go along with it.

Carefull, if you tap into the speaker wires at the bottom of your driver side, have fun with the Power lock switch if you have them. My tweets move badley when i hit my power lock switch.
