i own a 1996 cavalier and noticed on the newer models that the radio and climate controls have switched places. is it possible for me to go out and get the trim plate from a newer model and just switch it with mine and then do the relocation of the radio and climate controls in my car to make it look the same ? or would there be other work involved like a bracket or something to that extent.
basically what i'm looking to do is use the spot that the climate controls are in to install my alpine deck and save buying those ugly plates that make it so my slim deck will fit in the larger OEM stereo space. it looks like it would just drop in and be a nice fit. i would just have to worry about securing it and relocation of the climate controls to where the factory deck is located.
the newer trim would actually allow me to have it higher up on the dash instead of down near the center console and thus making it easier for access.
David,
i tried the same thing with my 96 as well. when they built the dash they put a steel pipe in behind the climate control knobs which would make it impossable to fit a cd player in there all the way. why the pipe is there i dont know. My 98 z24 has one in it too. Now it may be possable to take a dremel or some sort of cutting tool and trim the pipe out but otherwise it will not fit!
