Power Wire Length From Battery To Trunk
Friday, August 26, 2005 11:11 PM
hi guys, i've searched, but i couldnt find my answer. i am looking to upgrade my main power wire from 4 gauge to 1/0 gauge. i just need to know about how many feet of wire i would need to use. i know i could just take the old stuff out but then i would have no music.

also, ill be adding a third amp and my total rms power will be about 1200w. will an 80amp fuse be fine for this setup? thanks for your help.

Peace Out!!!

I usually just run the entire wire through and then cut off what I dont need. 1200w RMS is pretty solid, I would think 80 amp fuses would work for that.

I would not even bother going to 0/1 guage save yourself some cash 4 guage will be fine with 80amp current draw. If you are really die hard to get big wire just go with 2 guage. It costs me about .90 per foot. And for your fuse what are the fuse ratings on your amps add up all the fuses and get a fuse as close to it as possible. Midi fuses run in 5 amp sizes from 10 amps all the way to 200 amps. And for you question on wire length I normally just get about 25 to 30 feet that way i have a little extra so i can hide it better along the contour of the car and still have a litle left over.

thanks for the input. Machzel08 is right, im buying the wire by the foot and i dont want to buy too much extra wire. i think ill just pull back the carpeting and whatever else i can and measure it.

Peace Out!!!

Do you have an extension cord?

Route that the same way as you would your power wire. Then just measure that.

Then your going to end up with a hugh bump right in the middle of your floor. and eigther way you go about it you need minimum 20 ft. I've been down the road of half@$$ing it before and eventually you run into problems in a few months, if your gonna do it do it right. Other wise wait on it and save the money. Or just buy off the internet. you can find 4ga for .65 per foot 2ga for .85 and 0ga for 1.10. but its your car dude. do what you want. Just my two cents.

You put it in the middle of your floor?

Huh? I guess you didnt try routing it in the trim panals or through the floor boards.

Another option is when you Fatmat, or dynamat your cat, biuld up slight areas around the wires.

good idea LMR, i think ill do that.

i understand what you're trying to say andrew, but i was looking at where my current wire was running and it doesnt seem that a hump will be an issue. however, we'll see when i get it installed.

Peace Out!!!

When i first installed my system I ran the cable under the floor mats along the firewall to the center console alone and through the center of the back floor under the back seat since i used to have my amp mounted on the back seat. But at the time I didnt have the room to mount it along the trim panel due to the 2 guage wire that was running there for my sub amp. You can get away with doing 4 ga through the center of the car but 2 ga or 0/1 ga is too thick. after that i said screw it and moved my distribution block to the trunk and ran a single 0/1 all the way back. For deadining I would suggest brown bread its a lot cheaper than fatmat or dynamat. Cost for the entire car (trunk, floor, doors, roof) would be around 400 bucks opposed to about 700 for dynamat.

Hey while you're ordering that 1/0g wire why not go ahead and get some extra and do the big three if you haven't already?

you can fit that big wire down the side easily. I have two runs of 1/0 going down the drivers side...it's not that hard

So um Andrew, YOU GOT RIPPED

Um hey LMR your clueless........B-quiet extreme is the cheap stuff.......I have two layers of b-quiet ultimate in the trunk and one layer in the car. its 199 for 100sqft on ebay. Thats why it cost me 400 bucks. So looks like your the one who got ripped. cause you paid for shipping too.....So why dont you think before you open your mouth next time.

Smart people look for the cheapest price first.

I didnt pay for shipping, ANd if you did your research, Fatmat Extreme is there HI end stuff.

With 2 10" subs and 4 10"passive radiators, i only needed 1 layer throughout the car. NO rattles. And i still have about 15 - 20 sq ft left over.

Um LMR..... think about this one.....B-quiet doesnt make Fatmat.......nor is fatmat the same thickness off B-quiet ultimate.

Hew andrew, think about this...... DUH, thats why 2 companys, 2 different names, kinda like full metal jacket and Rhino lining.

And its not the thickness thats counts, its what its made of.

Of coarse Fatmat, is a bit thinner, but yet dampens just as well as Bquiet. Do a search, it was discussed before.

Just because its your Oppinion, doesnt make it right.

i'm not trying to say i'm right you the one sitting here telling me i paid to much for something that works as good or better than another when you dont even own the same product. I have used both fatmat and b-quiet.....there is fatmat in my girls car and b-quiet in mine. the b-quiet works better in dampening road noise and stops rattles. But thats my opinion......All i said was I how much i paid for it. and that its cheaper in E-bay.....good god man.... stop waving your d1ck around.

Weight is another issue.

50 sq ft of fatmat weighs 12lb.

Bquiet weighs in at 17.5Lbs

If i was a tuner as well as liking my sound, id go with the fatmat.

Oh And you know Bquiet is flammable and fatmat is not?

they do not make brown bread anymore but they replaced it with the Ultimate that was a little lower then brown bread. also it is the thickness and Weight that stops the road noise and rattles. the added weight you put on your trunk or whatever makes it more dence, kinda like when your trunk rattles and when you push on it and add weight it stops the rattles.

in my trunk i have 2-3 layers of the old brown bread and with the systems i had (over 150dbs) i never had a rattle out of my trunk.
