Line in for factory radio
Friday, August 26, 2005 8:20 AM
I have an '04 Cavy LS with the uplevel factory radio and amplifier. I am interested in finding out if there is any way I can get or make an input to plug in my portable MP3 player (and it's not an IPod) to my factory radio. I did a search on the internet and found a couple of companies that make a harness that plugs into the AUX input in the back of the radio and converts it into RCA inputs. They want almost $80 for a harness like that, and I think that's just crazy. Is there any other way that I can do that besides using an FM modulator? I have one of those already and it really distorts the highs and lows and makes it sound like crap most of the time. I haven't been able to find a wiring diagram for the radio that includes the AUX input. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yeah I found some on the internet but I don't want to pay $80 for it.

That's about the only way you're gonna get an RCA input for a stock deck.

easy, rf adapter with rca inputs plugs in line with your factory ant, hook an rca adapter to the stereo headphone type adapter, less than 50 bucks in parts at radio shack

AHA! Now we're getting somewhere! Thanks, I'm gonna look that up right now... I wasn't sure if something like that existed or not.

I found a little gadget at radio shack that lets you listen to your MP3 player/computer, etc. on your FM radio (you can set your own frequency). I was using that for a while in my Camry with the stock stereo and my laptop. Worked really good, dont turn the volume on the MP3 player too high or you get signal distortion and it sounds horrible. my laptop I leave at around 5% volume and just crank the radio. With the stock stereo and a dead tape deck, it was my only option because I cant reach behind the deck.

Ok, I've understand everything but I can't find an FM transmitter that can be plugged inline with my radio antenna. I already have all the other parts.
