Kicker L7 12" dual 2 ohm or 4 ohm
Tuesday, August 23, 2005 9:25 PM
Hi guys/gals, was wondering what type of sub I should get if I were to run a Kicker kx600.1. I don't understand the whole dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm thing. Please help!

If you're doing 1 sub, get a dual 4 ohm. You can run it in parallel to give you 2 ohms. If you're running 2, get dual 2 ohm subs. You can run them series/parallel to give you 2 ohms.

the amp is rated for 2 ohm. 1 ohm won't work.

Ok if you are gonna run L7 12"s you will actually need more power for them to sound right, I run 2 12" L7s with a KX1200.1 mono amp. The L7 12 can handle 750 rms and 1500 max. All that KX600.1 will do is distort the subs due to lack of power. My KX1200.1 is rated at 1200rms and 1450max,so basicly I could run 2 KX1200.1 amps on 2 L7 12s if I wanted to use them for comps. The KX600 will barely do enough to run 1 sub.

just get a 1200.1 amp then you can really power them right and down to 1 ohm

In my car I have 2 L7 12"s in a ported boxtuned at 38Hz with a KX1200.1 amp and it hits 148 Dbs,that damn hard for 2 12"s. I am actually not running full wattage to them now but it works good for a daily system. Just upgrade your amp and get 2 dual 4 ohm L7s and be done.

Ok then, anyone familiar or recommend Kenwood Excelon amps? Reason I ask is, I haven't purchased sub or amp yet. I currently have a Kenwood Excelon 810d 1600 watt amp. I was told that the L7 would sound good mated to a kicker amp. Any suggestions?

POWER RATINGS
- Maximum Output Power: 1600 Watts x 1
- Power Output at 2 Ohms, at 12V (1kHz, 0.5% THD): 600 Watts x 1
- Power Output at 2 Ohms, at 14.4V (1kHz, 0.5% THD): 800 Watts x 1
- Power Output at 4 Ohms, at 12V (20Hz-20kHz, 0.05% THD): 300 Watts x 1
- Power Output at 4 Ohms, at 14.4V (20Hz-20kHz, 0.05% THD): 400 Watts x 1

There's the ratings on the amp I currently own (Kenwood).

Also, the amp is 1 ohm stable.

That amp will run the L7s for a while bute will most likely burn up. I tried a Kenwood Excelon 1200 watt amp on 2 10" Audiobahn subs rated at 300 rms each and the amp didnt hold, they are not very good amps. As in with 2 800 amp batterys in my car it would dim the lights on the interstate and sound like ass after about 4 mins of hard play time. My Kicker has played hard from Merdian Ms all the way to Birmingham Al and barely dimed the lights sounding great the whole time. Not tring to be rude but just unass the cash and get the KX1200 Kicker and be done with it.
